Guess what Mastro Auctions did to me? WOW

Posted By: Danny
Hello Everyone..
Today I got a package from a good friend, Nathan who helped expanding my collection in past few years on Dummy Hoy, Dummy Taylor. Anyway, He won this item from Mastro Auctions for me.

Once I opened it and knew it wasnt Dummy Hoy at all. He never played for New York team. Nathan and I will contact them to see what happened. Is there something they can do?

Auction Link-

http://www.mastronet.com/index.cfm?action=DisplayContent&ContentName=Lot%20 Information&LotIndex=59084&CurrentRow=1

Any comment will be appericated..

Danny Gabel
Deaf Baseball Collector

Posted By: Judge Dred (Fred)
This isn't a small error (if it's Taylor and not Hoy). If there is an error like this then I'd be willing to bet money that Mastronet will "make good" on rectifying the situation.

Posted By: anthony
mastros needs to offer full refund including juice, or offer a percentage off of the sale price and you can keep the dummy taylor photos for the discounted price...then if relisted, clarify that it is taylor and not hoy as previously described.

Posted By: Nathan

I'm still amazed this item was described incorrectly...

From Mastro's auction description...

"Presented is a series of four original photos of Dummy Hoy, which have been doubled-matted and framed to 9-5/8" x 20-1/2" overall dimensions. Each photo (3" x 3-3/4" to 3-3/4" x 3-3/4" visible portions) exhibits apparent EX/MT display properties. Hoy, a deaf-mute, enjoyed a 14-year career (primarily with the Reds) that culminated in 1902."

When we bid on the item, the pictures were not as detailed as they could be on the website. Then when it arrived in the mail, we knew right away it was not Hoy as he never played for a New York Team. This simple information could be easily verified by Mastro and they even said he played "primarily with the Reds". Here's the teams he spent all of his career with.

1888 26 WHS NL
1889 27 WHS NL
1890 28 BUF PL
1891 29 STL AA
1892 30 WHS NL
1893 31 WHS NL
1894 32 CIN NL
1895 33 CIN NL
1896 34 CIN NL
1897 35 CIN NL
1898 36 LOU NL
1899 37 LOU NL
1901 39 CHW AL
1902 40 CIN NL

I have contacted Mastro...I haven't gotten a reply yet with it being the weekend. Will keep you all posted.

Nathan
Posted By: Griffin's
I had a small issue with a lot I won about 6 months ago. I talked to the receptionist about it, and within 5 minutes Doug had left a meeting, called me back, and made it right. I"m sure he'll take care of you as well.

Posted By: Joe D.
but I would think a reputable firm like mastro would give you a choice of a refund or a discount.

kind of stinks.

I know I was looking for hoy stuff, and if I found / bid / and won something I thought was hoy only to find out it was taylor I would be disappointed.

Posted By: dan mckee
I am having an issue as well with a lot in the last Mastro auction. I am waiting on Doug to call me. I had to email a few times then finally stated that I didn't want anything but I wanted to voice my disappointment. Doug did then email me back and just said he was swamped. Made sense with the National going on.

My issue is with the large T207 lot I won in the last auction. 20 of the 51 cards had paperloss and/or writing on back. They did state 33% were lesser than good so technically they are covered I guess. But I still feel that paperloss and/or writing should be mentioned as either is the kiss of death for resale. Dan.
