We need an '80s Collectors Coalition

There are seemingly hundreds of interesting errors and variations that have no chance of getting recognized by any of the third party graders. No one takes the decade seriously. While I don't care about slabbing cards to make money, I do believe that an active pop report would be a valuable resource in determining an EorV's rarity and condition sensitivity.

I think if we got a group of collectors together that could both pass an official judgment on a card's status but also be able to then provide proper information to the research departments we might actually get some of these things we love recognized officially.

I think Dylan, Al, and Bob would be a good start. That would cover the entire decade. I have no doubt there are other worthy members, I just don't post here enough to know them.

But nobody is going to suddenly care about the 1980s if we don't force their hand. Plus, for the life of me, I can never figure out why the TPGers are so reluctant to label variations when it only increases submissions for them. I don't know, I'm just spitballing.

This sounds gang related Arthur.

There are a lot of 80s variant collectors who have posted in the 80-present thread here. Bet there would be a lot of interest

Have you checked out this effort ? Their parameters may be more restrictive that what you envision but a great effort and a little flexible

As a person who has spent most of the past 30 years (and it was on and off) working on various errors and variations on sports cards I can't give a definition on the borderline so what may be a variation to you might not be to me.

Agreed that getting agreement on a specific definition is unlikely and that a complete list of all recurring variants in a card may be an endless task but there have been a few folks in the hobby, like you, Nozaki, Giilkeson, Dingman and now Cady who have done their best to do so :)

Well, I think #1 in order for it to be considered it has to be pulled from multiple different sources. Pulling 2 or 3 copies from the same source doesn't count. That's know as the Rick Wrona Rule.

Rules ? We are going to have rules ?

The Rick Wrona Rule is probably the most well-known rule in the entire universe, with a distinct outlier being Guam, where 98% of the population knnew of the rule, and is exchanged as currency in many countries.

That's actually a quote from he book "Smartest Shit Alive."

Where's your completely admissible in court proof? Huh?

Hopefully Guam is still upright
