His career ended in 1908, and he<br /> is one of 10 players that are not found in the T206 or T205 sets. Some of these players, finally, do appear in the 1912<br /> T202 and T207 sets.<br /><br /> Here are the other nine......<br /><br />Jimmy Archer<br /><br />Charlie Chech (career ends 1909)<br /><br />Tom Hughes<br /><br />Sam Leever<br /><br />Amby McConnell<br /><br />Danny Shay (career ends 1907)<br /><br />Alan Storke (career ends 1909)<br /><br /><br />And, most notably.....<br /><br />Harry Hooper....HOFer....St. Mary's College graduate with a Civil Engineering degree....The E91-C is his 1st BB card.<br /><br /><br />Joe Wood....1908-22, 116-57, ERA=1.91 In 1912 led AL 34-5....3-1 in WS vs Giants....The E91-C is his 1st BB card.<br /><br /><br />Show us your Harry Hooper and Joe Wood cards......<br /><br />TED Z

Posted By: <b>Ted Zanidakis</b><p>Can be any and every Joe Wood or Harry Hooper BB card from whatever issue.....there really aren't that many of them.<br /><br />It's really a big mystery to me that these two great players were not in the early Tobacco issues.<br /><br />Perhaps, there's some truth to my speculation on the "Candy-Tobacco" wars regarding certain BB players during the 1907-1911 era ? ?<br /><br />Thanks for posting your "Smoky Joe" Wood.<br /><br />TED Z

That day we beat<br /> the Yankees, 3-2, in a game that lasted 19 innings. It was at the Polo Grounds, the same ballpark where six<br /> years before I'd won three World Series games as a pitcher for Boston. But now, as an outfielder for Cleveland,<br /> I hit two home runs and the second one came in the 19th inning and broke up the ballgame."<br /><br />This paragraph is an excerpt from Joe Wood's interview in the THE GLORY OF THEIR TIMES, by Lawrence S. Ritter <br /><br />This event was late in Joe's career when he couldn't pitch anymore. Posted By: <b>Dave Hornish</b><p>Amazingly Frank, my bank does not even have copies of most of the cancelled checks cashed against my account anymore; more often it's just a line entry and there is no image or anything shown on my (online) statement. There will not be treasure troves of cancelled checks discovered 70 years from now for todays athletes.<br /><br />Years ago, there was a display in the lobby of the Empire State Building done by Ripley's Believe or it Not and they had a copy of a large metal check "Cancelled" with a machine gun on display.<br /><br />

I have a few checks of old BB players, also.<br /><br />Frank, I know that you know....but, for others....Smoky Joe was destined for the HOF, but after<br /> his amazing 1912 season he fell breaking his right thumb and injuring his arm and shoulder. Even<br /> though his won-lost record continued to be fine (1913-15), his pitching performance was deter-<br />iorating as he developed serious arm trouble.<br /><br />He was sold to Cleveland for $15,000 and switched to playing the outfield. Ended up with a .283<br /> Batting Average (which is higher than a lot of present HOFers).<br /><br />I'd like to see him in the HOF, too. Gentleman Walter Johnson once credited Smoky Joe's fastball<br /> to be as fast as his.<br /><br />TED Z <br />

The Horner cabinet was auctioned by Mastro last spring. I was <u>not</u> the lucky winner. Anybody know if there are any more out there? The TSN Wood is not technically a card, but you guys are cool with that, right?
