1 Attachment(s)
Recent Purchase of the enclosed Ruth Photo. Looking for information on the following photo of Babe Ruth. Back of the photo written in pencil info includes Babe Ruth, Brooklyn Coach 1939. Ruth is in a brooklyn uniform. There is the name Levine Embossed on the bottom right corner area.
(possibly the photographers name). Looking for any info on what type of photo
Type 1,2,3. Greatly appreciate all the input.

Can't seem to post multiple photos at once

Babe Ruth Photo

Small point, but the photo is from 1938 and not 1939. The uniform Ruth is wearing features the 1939 Worlds Fair patch that was worn by the Giants, Dodgers, and Yankees in 1938. This also appears to be a road uniform as indicated by the two bands of narrow soutache at the sleeve ends.

Not a rule written in stone and I can think of a baseball exception, but my experience is that dry stamps (embosssed with no ink like yours) are usually found on originals.

Dave is certainly right on the year based on his extensive knowledge of vintage uniforms. BTW, 1938 NY Giants and Yankees baseball tickets also incorporated this exact same NY World's Fair logo on them.

I would also add that this photo would have been taken after June 15th, 1938. Ruth was in attendance of Johnny Vander Meer's 2nd consecutive no-hitter in 1938, but had not yet officially joined the Dodgers as a coach.
This announcement occurred shortly after Vandy's no-hitter on June 15th.

Given this fact, this photo could have been taken at these venues on the road:

At NY Giants
At Phillies
At Pitt Pirates
At Cinci Reds
At Chi Cubs
At StL Cards
At Bos Braves

The backdrop of the stadium has me thinking that it is not the Polo Grounds in NY. This gives you 6 other possibilities: At Phillies, at Pirates, at Reds, at Cubs (I'm pretty certain it's not at CHI), at STL. Cards or at Bos Braves.
Compare your photo to my photo of Vandy signing autographs at the Polo Grounds in 1938.
Note that the openings in the stadium in the background in your photo and mine is NOT the same. Any others want to take a swing at identifying the stadium in question?

Assuming it's an 8x10, $150-$250.

Mike,
I would say 150-175 max. Reasons being its not an action shot, you really dont see his face. People like to know its Ruth. Playing days were over, and not a yankee or even better for Ruth a Red Sox uniform. Just my 2 cents...
