1948 Topps Hall of Fame R714-27

I have a chance to pick up a handful of the 1948 Topps Hall of Fame R714-27 cards. I've not had much luck finding any details/background on these.

I've looked in the Beckett Almanac of Baseball Cards and found some basic details.

I'm not sure how rare these are. If anyone has any background about these cards to share, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi Gary

These are 1948 Topps Magic Photos. They were blank on the front when first taken out of the wrapper. By spitting on the wrapper and holding it to the card, the photo self-developed. (I'm getting this from the Krause Standard Catalog)

There were 19 baseball cards in a set of 252 cards. They are fairly obscure, but there are a few on eBay from a seller in the UK. Yours? The cards on eBay are listed as Hocus Focus, but they are Magic Photos. The Hocus Focus cards are from 1955 and 1956, and they say "Hocus Focus on the back. The Hocus Focus cards are much more difficult to find and more expensive than the Magic Photos.

In VG, the common Magic Photo cards book at $18, while the Cobb and Gehrig book at $80, with Ruth at $135.

Thanks Rick. That's really helpful. The listings on UK Ebay aren't mine, but they're the ones I was thinking of picking up.

The seller is asking way too much - but I might see if they'll accept an offer.

Thanks for the help guys. I managed to pick up one of the Magic Photos and also 3 1956 Hocus Focus cards too. Now I need to figure out how to present them. They are REALLY small.
