Posted By: <b>Frank Wakefield</b><p>My recollection from what I've read is that Colonel Ruppert paid his half of the $100,000 with a check, the earliest of these two. Ruppert's partner and co-owner of the Yankees, Tillinghast L'Hommedieu Huston, paid with 50 one thousand dollar bills.<br /><br />I am not certain of that, but I think that's what happened. Surely there's a Yankee fan who knows enough team history to verify that.

Huston bought the Yankees for $450,000.<br /><br />Ruppert brought his attorney and a certified check for his half...<br /><br />Huston came alone, reached into his pocket, pulled out a huge roll of cash and proceeded to count out 225 thousand-dollar bills...<br /><br />
