Your pick for the Holy Grail of 19th Century Baseball Cards
This is a poll for your opinion on the Holy Grail of 19th Century Baseball Cards. Choose from the following 5 cards.
1. Peck & Snyder Cincinnati Red Stockings 2. Peck & Snyder James Creighton 3. N172 Old Judge Cap Anson "In Uniform" 4. Just So Cy Young 5. Four Base Hits King Kelly |
nice poll
Nice poll. A quick thought is that I am not sure anyone ever felt that the 1869 Peck and Snyder is the Holy Grail of 19th Century cards. If you add in the qualifier that there has to be at least 10 known (or 5 for that matter), thereby being somewhat collectible, then there is only 1 that would qualify. I voted for the Just So :D
|
If we take out the requirement that the card must be attainable from the other thread, I would pick the Just So Cy Young as well.

I wanted to make this poll without too many specifics. Only which card is the Holy Grail. It seems these 5 cards deserve the most attention.

I would have voted for the N172 Anson in uniform, but I'm biased by my location so I had to vote for the Peck and Snyder Reds card. :)
|
I don't think it should matter if the card is attainable or not, heck, the t206 Wagner is not attainable for the vast majority of collectors.
I went with Anson, biggest name from the most popular/mainstream 19th cent set. |
agreed

I picked the James Creighton but considered the Anson in uniform.

Peck and Snyder James Creighton
Does anyone have an image of the Peck & Snyder James Creighton card?
I don't believe I ever saw one before. Thanks, Tony |
I went with the N172 Anson in uniform as the "Holy Grail" for the same reasons as Jeff P. above.
However, if given the choice between that card and the Just So Cy Young for my personal collection (not that either one will ever be in my collection most likely), Young would probably edge out the Anson by just a tad. JimB |
One of each, please.

A shameless bump to the top. I find the results interesting and a bit surprising. I thought N172 Anson in uniform would garner over 50% of the votes. Just So Cy Young has some strong support.
