Piedmont Art Stamp Backing

1 Attachment(s)
Has anyone ever seen a Piedmont Art Stamp with a backing like this? The stamp is adhered to a Piedmont alarm clock ad stating, the alarm clock will be sent for 350 Piedmont coupons. Offer expires June 30, 1915. Do you believe the stamp could have been adhered in the factory or distributed this way? I purchased the stamp from a couple who found it being used as a bookmark inside of a turn of the century book.

Thanks

It probably came out of the pack that way. The stamp along with a premium coupon. Over the years moisture probably left the two bound to each other. The Art Stamps were pre-gummed so it wouldn't take much for them to bind together.

There is a product called "stamp lift" or such that is used by stamp collectors to free unused stamps that have stuck down in old albums due to moisture/humidity that will allow you to remove the coupon and not damage the Piedmont stamp or the coupon. It is brushed on the front and in a few minutes the adhered piece can be removed and then the stamp itself dries back to normal. It needs to be used liberally and not force the two apart, a little extra time is better to allow it to penetrate.

If you are anywhere near a stamp/coin shop you should be able to find it or in the www.
