T206 Survival Rates...

Anyone notice that there are ONLY 3500-plus T206's in the REA auction?

Imagine how many still exist...

But...

Nation wide there seems to be an endless supply........but every local card shop I've been in never has ANY.......

Once, the guy went into the back room of the card shop, and brought out about 3 of them- two were beat to hell, the one I liked (decent looking 3 Finger Brown throwing) had marks on it where I think pencil or markings were erased, and wanted something like $180.00 !!! I passed...

Maybe because they are so popular right now (or seem to be) that more people are consigning them hoping to make some decent $$.

I would pretty confidently wager that there are over 1 million T206s in existence.

Heck, I've probably had around close to 5,000 of them go through my personal collection at one point or other (of course most are long gone now).

In my 20+ years of experience, they've never been scarce, but neither has the demand for them, nor, would I expect, will it be in the future. The T206's, 1914 and 1915 Cracker Jack's, 1933 and 1934 Goudeys and the "52 Topps are the classic staples of set collecting. Value = demand/supply. Despite the relatively large supply, values will continue to slowly rise (on the more common cards--I personally think rarer backs of upper echelon hall-of-famers will continue to show substantial appreciation) as more and more people collect the set. And they will.
