Pre-war blank-back cards

Was it unusual for many of these issues to have blank-backs that were then typed with a company name?

For example, I have a D304 Ty Cobb that does not have any of the bakeries normally seen advertising on the back. Instead, the back would be blank if not for the following:

"South Allegan
Manufacturing Co.
Allegan, Michigan"

I have tried every way I know to research this and other cards similarly typed on, but am not able to come up with any information, so I suspect these are very rare cards, but...

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I have a feeling that the printing is going to be done with what looks like a typewriter, which means it is a reprint. I hope that I am wrong. Looking forward to seeing it.

Many people have stamped the backs of reprints with a random company name to make them appear authentic and period. It's a common tactic.

I've seen pre-war cards that have been typewritten upon but never a legitimate pre-war issue with an ad done by typewriter. All of the ones I've seen were either printed (Nadja, Polar Bear, Shotwell, etc.) or stamped (Old Put, Niagara, Henry Johnson, etc.). I can't imagine someone choosing to distribute an ad in the form of baseball cards and typing each one of them individually. You could probably stamp at least 20 of them in the time it would take to do 1 by typewriter.
