Paypal business account?

Has this every happened to anyone?

I had a card listed on ebay that supposedly sold. I promptly got an email from PayPal saying that I had received a payment from this dude (listed the proper amount and his name) but that I needed to create a paypal business account to "claim" the payment. All of my ebay sales, as sporadic as they are, go to a personal paypal. Why do I need to open up a business account? Also a little odd in that I subsequently send the guy a request for payment from my personal account which he hasn't responded to.

The Paypal email seemed entirely legit, and I mentioned properly referenced the "sale" amount and the high bidder.

All confusing. I guess I could call them.

I have used PP thousands of times and don't think I have ever seen that. I would not do it and call them to see what is going on? In looking at the email you received is their email address/url a PP address or some scam address? ...@paypal.com

Never had that happen in hundreds of sales.

Fact that the alleged buyer hasn't respond to my request for payment has certainly raised my suspicion that some game playing is underway.

I have only had a few people serious mess with on unfinished ebay sales and I've always suspected that they might be sellers of a similar card and a worse price point that just want to take mine off the market for a few days.

I'm sure Paypal emails can be faked. Did you go to your Paypal account to see if there is anything about the transaction there?

Yeah, nothing there. But this email looked legit. I've seen more than my share of bogus pay pal emails over the years. I clicked on it and it took me to www.paypal.com

I found this, it might lend some light to the situation.

Thanks Mark! Really appreciate. Looks like some punitive thing when a buyer decided not to use their beloved PayPal.
