I guess everyone has their favorites. For me, it starts with the N167's. I've always loved them. I'm sure I'm biased but I feel you just can't beat the 19th Century material. It's been a while since I've seen one so I thought I'd share. More to post if there's interest. - Dave

Here are a few more scans of some other subjects. Wish I would have picked up more 20 years ago when I could have.

Never been all that into 19th Century but I'll admit this is a great looking set

Beautiful cards. That set will always remind me of Jim Blumenthal, so I will never get tired of seeing them. Thanks for posting!

Mdmtx 09-07-2017 05:18 PM

I hope to find an example sometime soon. Great set for sure. Thanks for sharing.

Exactly.

As an aside, this is one set where I think the back is really spectacular.

I remember them well. One of the funniest nights of my life.

Jobu 09-07-2017 10:13 PM

These are great! I have never seen one in person --- can you post the backs?

edjs 09-07-2017 10:27 PM

Seriously, fantastic cards. Please show the backs, they are spectacular.

I really miss my friend JimB.
:(:(

But seeing these cards made me smile because I know he loved this set.

This set makes me think of Jim.

Which makes me smile

Amazingly beautiful set - here's what the back looks like:

Jim is easily the person who has passed, in our hobby, which I miss most. Lot's of good collectors have gone to the great collection in the sky but there will always only be one JimB. ....Great cards in this thread and a nice tribute to what he was able to accomplish (*set completion).

I miss Jim too, really a once in a generation person. I'll post an N167 I got from Jim in a trade:

HRBAKER 09-10-2017 04:47 PM

Just a beautiful set.
That he was able to complete it is a monumental feat.

philliesphan 09-11-2017 12:32 PM

Jay - absolutely beautiful Ewing. How the heck is that a 2? Is there some damage on the back or something?

Some discoloration lines from book it was in

JeremyW 09-11-2017 02:57 PM

Jay- Great card with the kind of back damage that doesn't bother me at all. Jim's loving this thread.
