RKO Theatres Babe Ruth Premium

Another recent pickup was this RKO Theatres Babe Ruth Premium. At this point, this is the only version I've found with the extra text box on the left side on the back. Besides being just an interesting new find, it also solidifies the identification and dating of the versions without this box. Prior to finding this, it was assumed but not confirmed, that this was issued around 1948 in conjunction with The Babe Ruth Story movie coming out. As the additional text on this one advertises the movie, it is now quite certain.

Anyone ever see any others of these with additional back printing? They typically only have the "Here's What Made Babe Ruth the Greatest of All" box on the back.

Instead of showing him with Boston in 1934, that back lists him as playing for the Yankees in 1934.

Gotta be 1948. Nice card.

Not sure what you mean Frank. Didn't he move to the Braves in 1935? They got his career HR total correct, yet don't show the 1935 season with Boston. Of course, they also exclude his first 6 seasons from the stat box.

Right you are...

I looked in the words and saw 714 home runs, so I knew those Boston home runs were included in there... but just above that the last line of stats was for 1932... Then I see that they're talking about World Series stats, and I look up and see that 1934 line for batting.

Still, I wonder why they were so selective about the stats. It doesn't show his hitting while a Red Sox or a Brave, only Yankees; but does show his Red Sox pitching. That could have been presented a bit more clearly. Guess they're Ra, ra-ing the Yankees aspect of it all.

1934 still in New York, 1935 back to Boston.
