A VCP issue?
I saved your rant for posterity as I was quoting you when you took it down. Most folks on this board knew the market was being manipulated with certain cards such as the Rose rookie. To think VCP could know what gets paid for and what doesn't, and try not to report those sales which didn't get paid for, seems crazy to me.

edited to add a few sales histories...I can't imagine spending 150k on a Rose in a 9 and then a month later have it selling for 30k? That is a huge, huge drop off...

Does seems like some more modern cards have quickly fallen off a high cliff. Of course, they are EXACTLY the cards informed board members have been saying for a long time were obscenely and irrationally overpriced.

Leon I think you copied the wrong link. The second sale was an SGC 9.

Market manipulation? Say it ain't so Joe!

The pin (don't know if that's the right terminology) has been popped on the left side. Also, the right border has frosting. I'm not saying it's been cracked and/or re-sealed, just saying that might have scared away some bidders. Either way, I agree - the price has fallen.

It's really sad that this has become our reaction. It's really not a surprise anymore, is it?:(

Yea I would find this one very concerning if I had spent 150k a few weeks earlier on a similar card. Might be a good time to pick one up. If I had the available funds I'd be in the market for a psa 8 Clemente at current prices.

I wouldn't say most people knew. As I recall quite a few people were trying to defend the prices as legitimate, and even making fun of those saying otherwise or suggesting they were just bitter.

Well, at least let me mention the winning bidder of the 150k one has 70 bid retractions so maybe he retracts payments too.. :o

And Peter, I completely agree with you. The only train we missed was one which had another coming straight at it.

Yup. In June they were all out in force--defending the market and/or completely in denial. There were some fabulous explanations they gave for why the market spiked--new money, aggressive advertising campaign by PSA, prices had been low for the previous 8 years...this was touted as a game changing time. LOL. Now silence by those same people and some of them are even posting regularly. The best part was when the market started to turn and these same guys defended the dip--too close to the National or the card in question was a weak example.

Several of the PSA 8 Rose rookies sold for $16K in June. This card was selling for $3-4K last year. You can assume that most of these were not paid for. If anyone is using those sales as data, then you shouldn't be in charge of your money.

The PSA 9 Rose rookie sales curve is....well...it isn't even a curve. $29K in June, $150K in July, $82K in August, $131K late August. Likely many non-paying winners for this card also.

Whether the Rose rookies or any other record setting sales were paid for or not, I would not use the sales data during this period of time as meaningful. It was a grossly manipulated market as some knew and tried to point out.
