T206 SC 460/30 "Solid Leaf"

1 Attachment(s)
Sorry 206 haters. Your nightmare. :) Another thread about what you may regard as a "who cares?" triviality. But, alas, some of us do care.

I would like to know who else has a Sweet Cap back with one of the leaves filled in. By that I mean one of the motif leaves in the corner is solid, as opposed to a leaf outline separated by a void with a mark in the middle. And if the solid leaf happens to be the bottom left leaf in the upper left corner of an SC 460/30, all the better!

I'm not making any grand claim about a design change as opposed to a printing flaw at this point--just gathering information.

Thanks for playing.

Scot

Pat R 05-26-2015 08:52 PM

Scot I don't think I have any but I will check My SC 460/30's.

Since you didn't reveal who's on the front I think it would be fun trying
to figure out who it is.

sreader3 05-26-2015 08:53 PM

Hi Patrick,

Thanks for playing. I don't want to tell who is on the front because I don't want to bias the survey.

I have also noticed a lot of variation in the inking of Piedmont backs too.

sreader3 05-26-2015 09:01 PM

Bryan,

For sure ink bleeding abounds on 206 backs -- but why only on one leaf?

Scot

Jobu 05-26-2015 09:08 PM

To me it seems you were right on your mention of a printing flaw because the leaf isn't fully filled in and it seems to spill over into the middle as well.

This does bring up something I always wonder about: do you guys think the printers ever "signed" the cards they made? For example, by making small additions, such as to this leaf, that would only be evident to them so they knew which cards they actually made?

It certainly could be a printing flaw. If a bunch of other filled leaves surface (especially on other corners) with varying degrees of spillover I would be inclined to think that. But looking at the card there really isn't much spillover. . . . I hadn't thought of the printer "signature" idea. That is fascinating.

I can't answer your questions Bryan, but just wanted to say that the T206 you posted has one of the nicest crop lines I've evers seen. ;)

Scot - I'll check my Sweet Caps and get back with you.

Just a guess but I think you will only find one with that particular filled leaf
on the same subject as the one Scot has.

There are a few Evers similar to the one Bryan posted but not as severe
although the SGC has the same crop mark.

It may be possible to find a Willis (Port) with the same mark as Evers.

Drew 05-27-2015 09:58 AM

Hi Scot
I checked all my sweet caps I don't have any with the filled leaf
Drew

With all due respect to the 206 lovers out there, am I missing something? I see a card with a splotched back.

If that makes a Piedmont Evers worth 2k...wow.

mrvster 05-27-2015 03:47 PM

Scot....

I have a "filled in sc border" ....I look later for scans.....great to have you posting regularly again!:)

Chris, that cards not even close to being worth 2k it sold on 8-6-13
for $250. Even with the huge crop mark thats about what I would value it
at maybe a little more.

Sorry Scot

0 for 145 on all SC's, including 0/21 on 460 and 0/9 on 460 F30 :(

Econteachert205 05-27-2015 06:52 PM

No luck on my few sweet caps. Looks like something worth investigating to me though.

sreader3 05-27-2015 07:15 PM

Pat, Jimmy, Steve, Dennis:

Thanks for your inputs, they are much appreciated especially where N is large.

Jimmy -- Your name is a "blast from the past" to me and it's great to hear from you after several years. Thanks so much for your kind words.

Scot,

No filled leaf yet but I did find a couple missing part of the middle on one of
the leaves.

edjs 05-28-2015 06:18 PM

Scot,

Sorry, not a one. Love your Inside T206, though. Thanks for all the work that must have taken.

sreader3 05-28-2015 07:57 PM

Larry, Scott, Donnie, Patrick, Ed:

Thanks for your inputs. Patrick, your unfilled leaves are particularly awesome and make me think it's more likely that mine is a print error.

And dfallen (sorry don't know your first name) -- that 1 SC among your 108 (thanks for checking all those) is a GREAT input and also nudges me toward the print error view.

Hi Scot,

I have 22 T206 cards with a Sweet Caporal back. While none of them exhibit a fully colored leaf, this Jack Quinn presents additional red ink around the flowers.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Eric

Eric,

Cool card. Thanks for the input.

Scot,

Here's two different versions both the same subject but I think the one is the
same one you posted, it has the same blue/green marks on the back as yours.

Patrick

After looking at them both I'm not sure they're the same card, the corners on yours are a little more rounded especially the bottom right but
both of them do have the same blue/green markings in the same place so maybe it's the scans.

sreader3 05-30-2015 04:17 PM

Patrick,

Awesome work.

Subject on my card is Payne.

Yours?

Scot,

The two I found were also Payne.

sreader3 05-31-2015 07:30 AM

Your second Payne is the card I have.

Thanks for the detective work.

Scot

Pat R 05-31-2015 07:46 AM

Scot,

I thought it might be, I could see they had similar markings but sometimes it's hard to tell with different scans.

Thanks for the challenge.

tedzan 05-31-2015 09:41 AM

Hi Scot

I guess not all of the Sweet Cap 460, Factory 30 cards of Payne have the "solid leaf". Here is my Payne card......

.

Pat R 05-31-2015 10:17 AM

Definitely not Ted, I only found two out of the 83 SC 350-460 I checked
and well over half of them were factory 30.

sreader3 05-31-2015 10:23 AM

Ted,

Thanks for checking your Payne.

And Patrick,

Thanks for letting us know your "hit" ratio for solid leaf Paynes -- 2 of 83.

That's about 2.4%.
