Posted By: Ben
If money was no object, and you had unfettered access to every card ever made and you could only choose one, what card would you take?

I'm not talking about the card with the highest book value, just the card you've always dreamed about having...

If you could have one card...

Posted By: runscott
i.e: one that someone has right now and doesn't know enough about cards to have it "restored"....rounded corners, no creases, great color and registration.

But if we're talking total fantasy, I will find it by taking the backing off the "Wagner's personal 1909 Supplement" I'm selling on ebay right now - it will be lodged back there with a couple of Piedmont cigarette butts.

Posted By: Andy Baran
In my opinion, the first baseball card ever produced. I know Leon thinks it is a ticket, not a card . Either way, it is irrelevant, since I doubt Keith Olberman would ever consider selling it - at any price.

Posted By: Andy Baran
I think the Creighton card is considered from 1865, though I have no idea how anyone would know for sure. Any idea who owns the Creighton card now? I think Mark Rucker owned it at one time.

If you could have one card...

Posted By: Jay Miller
Andy--I agree with Leon. It is a ticket, not a card. It was a ticket till a bit of marketing genius got PSA to slab it and that was used to convince poor Keith that it was a card. Tickets to many of last year's Yankee games had player's pictures on them. I don't think anyone would consider these cards. I would be interested to hear what Lew Lipset thinks on this issue.

Posted By: leon
My guess is that Lew would think the same thing as several other of the top experts in the hobby would say. It's a ticket....otherwise, why would it say "admit to the bearer on demand" ...but then again there is no exact definition of a card....ask AAA ...regards

If you could have one card...

Posted By: Andy Baran
Jay,

In my opinion, it is a card, for 2 Reasons.

1. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe that at the time it was issued, the purchaser had the option of purchasing a regular ticket, or for a premium price they could buy this "card" that could be used as a ticket. I think that if there was a 2002 Topps Yankee Insert Card that was issued that would also allow the owner to get into a particular Yankees game while keeping the "card" it would be considered a card, not a ticket. If there were no regular tickets issued for the Hoboken game, then I would consider this a ticket.

2. As I have told people before, I have one simple rule that helps me determine whether or not I believe that an item is a card or not. Basically, if it looks like a card, and it feels like a card, then it is a card. To me, it definitely looks like a card, and I would imagine that it feels like a card, so I consider it a card. I'm not at all familiar with the Yankees Tickets with Player Photos, but I imagine that it looks more like a ticket than a card.

Just my opinion.

If you could have one card...

Posted By: Ed McCollum
if I could have any one card, it would be a T206 Magie error in poor condition. It would come close to matching most of the cards in my collection, but still be the jewel. Maybe one to keep my Mattie portrait company...most of the back missing, two tackholes, and a combination of glue and tape residue from previous owners that make it a truly sticky mess. Oh well, that's my dream card.

If you could have one card...

Posted By: Ben
I have the same 'affection' for lower condition cards. The reason for this is twofold; first, I have a somewhat limited budget, and second, a well handled card has 'personality' and is a testament to its old age.

On that note, I'm gonna second Jeff's choice- my dream card is also the Goodwin Champion Anson. I think it is the most beautiful baseball card ever produced.
