American Caramel, National Caramel, CA Briggs....

Posted By: leon
A few advertising type pieces and envelopes I picked up recently. I think they go neatly with the cards....(York Chocolate could have been an off shoot of York Caramel, not sure)....

Posted By: robert a
Interesting grouping of ad pieces. They all appear to be from 1925. Briggs must've been a popular company.

I wonder if the e97s might've been packaged in a similar sized cough drop box or if they came with the chocolates that they produced?
A baseball card would've been a nice treat if you were coming down with a cold maybe.

I've always figured that the company dabbled in some kind of candy in addition to the lozenges. It might've been a bit more consistent with the spirit of baseball cards to package the cards with chocolate rather than lozenges.

Thanks for sharing Leon. I always like seeing pieces like this.

Rob
I haven't researched this set nor have I found a Ruth (the only baseball player) at a price I wanted to pay....this scan is courtesy of OldCardboard magazine....

Posted By: leon
That Ruth goes somewhere in the 1k-2k range, I believe.....The few I have seen for sale were the upper end of that or more, from what I remember...but don't hold my feet to the fire on this..it's been a while since I've seen one for sale....regards

Posted By: Zach Rice
I haven't really paid attention, lately, to sales of this card. The last one I can remember appearing on eBay ended March 1st, 2006. This copy closed at just over $300 but was a redeemed example. Once an entire set of cards was collected, they could be returned to the company for your choice of a piece of baseball equiptment or a pound of chocolate. The cards would also be returned, however, not the entire card. Brigg's method of redeeming cards was very crude and they literally tore off the upper portion of the card. This is why the Ruth in March 2006 went for so low.
