CSG Press Release And Updated Information, 1-6-2021

I received this from CSG. My understanding is they will be at the Allen, TX, show later this month and will be accepting submissions. Hopefully they will be wildly successful. We can use a good grading company that actually stands behind their product. Time will tell.

i agree good luck to them

Based on that letter, it looks like they're actually using AI, Rulers and Infrared/UV lighting to detect bleaching and re-coloring. That alone would put them well ahead of their competition.

Hope they can live up to the hype and eventually thrive!

Thoughts on the holder?

Yuck...

Too big, too bright and too green. The flip should not overpower the card. I like the sub-grades but it would be easy to make it smaller.

Tobacco and Caramel cards especially will be overwhelmed by the larger slab and flip. I personally would prefer something more subtle.

Will it be on the reverse?

I would hope it would be SOMEWHERE on the flip....or you are gonna have fakes galore.

According to the website the serial number and QR code will be on the reverse.

You can also get high resolution scans of the submission in a the holder emailed to you for record keeping...for a small fee.

The holder looks to dam tall. Probably need a whole different set of sleeves for them. Not to mention they will not fit in my graded card cases.

OldOriole 01-07-2021 12:43 PM

Good Luck

I hope they do well. Competition is a good thing and certainly needed in the card grading field. That being said, it's a hard pass for me. I'm happy with my grading company, except for the turnaround times. I think that's a problem that afflicts all of them - and will with this new one too if they are accepted and take off. Besides, I could never get used to that holder. I wish them the best of luck, though.

I hope they can make a dent in the market share. Competition is always welcome. And seems like they will be on the cutting edge of card grading (although PSA/SGC/BGS may use the same methods. I honestly don't know).

I would certainly be willing to send in a few PC cards to start. Am interested to see how the values pan out in the secondary market before I'd be willing to send in stuff that I would be looking to sell. My only gripe is that they've got to fix that slab. The label is far too busy and too big, in my opinion.

Most interesting from the above offering from CSG to me is the card given as example...

If that is 7.5 centering we are looking at pretty high tolerances for off centering.

BobbyStrawberry 01-07-2021 01:50 PM

Looks like the slab will be much taller than other companies' slabs. I'm not a huge fan of that idea.

Casey2296 01-07-2021 02:37 PM

Sounds like the technology is top shelf, I think they missed it on the esthetics of design for a pre-war card slab. The label looks a bit smaller that the size of a T206 and quite overpowering. Probably works great for the modern stuff though. Personal preference, the best flip for pre-war is the old SGC green label.

JollyElm 01-07-2021 02:55 PM

If I may, the Mantle card is the bride, and the holder is a wedding guest in a bright red dress, getting loud and drunk during the Father/Daughter dance.

AGuinness 01-07-2021 03:52 PM

I'll echo the sentiments that I'm not a big fan of the slab, but I welcome the new entry into the field.
And I'll add that now that we have SGC and CSG, can we also add grading companies SCG, CGS, GSC and GCS just to have all the bases covered and make sure everybody succumbs to the confusion?

Tabe 01-07-2021 04:02 PM

The label is horrible. Looks like something that somebody with no design skills - like me - would come up with in Photoshop in about 20 minutes. Really, really poor.

When I saw the thread title, my first thought was “Why is a Carrier Strike Group posting on a baseball card forum?”

frankbmd 01-07-2021 04:39 PM

It’s okay.

Regarding the slab and the flip-

You can please all of the people none of the time.

bswhiten 01-07-2021 04:48 PM

Design is subjective. I’m an architect, I get it... but yuck.

Mozzie22 01-07-2021 05:58 PM

It's incomprehensible to me that a company could swing and miss so badly on a slab design. They must have put all of 5 minutes of thought into this. For DECADES collectors have repeatedly stated how much they like the black look of SGC and the slim design of PSA. This company decides they will go in the opposite direction on two of the most important concerns collectors have?

Or are they just laying the groundwork for a redesign in a year so they can capitalize on all the reholdering fees?

What. The. Hell?

Rookiemonster 01-07-2021 09:37 PM

I like the idea and if they do what they say it will definitely change the game. I think the case and flip are probably made to look nice with magic the gathering cards and Pokémon etc. The parent company CGC is the standard for comic grading.

I have a question though . How many sticks do you get with them.

mantlefan 01-07-2021 09:43 PM

Mick?

Any thoughts on the bottom right border on that Mickey? Looks a bit off to me.
