REA - anyone else feel left out

So the auction has amazing items and is well organized with great photos and write ups. But it's 2800 lots and as a Cuban/Latin collector it offers 3 lots and nothing particularly interesting.

So let's here from others who can appreciate its overall greatness but really doesn't have a personal interest - i.e. It's great but what other things should it offer

Mdmtx 10-07-2017 08:16 AM

It is a great auction for sure, only things I wish it had more variety was in 19th century boxing and non sports.

oldjudge 10-07-2017 08:41 AM

I know how you guys feel. There is some great 19th century stuff, just nothing that fits me. BTW Mark, there are some rare Australian Old Judge boxing cards.

wolf441 10-07-2017 08:50 AM

I just wish it had more T206s. :D

Bestdj777 10-07-2017 09:03 AM

Same here. 2800 items, most of which are fantastic, but not a single piece I need for my collection. My wallet is very happy though.

Thromdog 10-07-2017 09:03 AM

I feel left out because of the autobid skip system. It's a terrible system for online auctions.

Mdmtx 10-07-2017 09:12 AM

Been debating on them Jay. Not sure what I'm going to chase just yet.

I wish I had more money!

Snapolit1 10-07-2017 09:40 AM

Have 11 bids down and losing all of them. I like where I am sitting. Like a long horse racing. Just getting into position to make a move around the far turn. In 3 weeks.

insidethewrapper 10-07-2017 09:51 AM

It's fun bidding on items early. You know you will never win them and you can always say you bid on a Ruth Rookie Card or Wagner etc.

100% agreed.

bobbvc 10-07-2017 10:29 AM

Could use a few more W600's.

rats60 10-07-2017 10:32 AM

I only bid on three items and there is only one that I really want as the other two would be placeholders until a better conditioned card came along.

BeanTown 10-07-2017 11:12 AM

I wish there were more rare Cobb postcards and ones I needed.

edjs 10-07-2017 11:18 AM

I'm definitely in the opposite camp. I feel like someone went through my collection, found everything I need, and consigned all the holes in my sets with the highest graded examples of each. Just to tease me since I can't buy it all. Frustrating, but I will be happy if I can get even one lot.

Rhotchkiss 10-07-2017 11:43 AM

I wish I had consigned some of my higher-grade, rarer back t206s (see BST), bc the t206 selection is not robust (save a ton of cobbs), but otherwise, I think the offering is totally awesome and there are many things I have bid on and more that I wouid like to own.

swarmee 10-07-2017 12:03 PM

No giant non-sports collection this time, no T51s, and a partial set (15/25) of T6 Murad College cabinets that all seem to have pinholes. I'll have to do some more digging to find stuff to bid on.

Kawika 10-07-2017 12:30 PM

Yet again no Big Eaters!

Wish there were more rarebacks, but there is a lot of stuff I want

I noticed that, too. Also, no Red Sun. I am sure there is much more, but for me, thank the lord, there is already system overload! :)

rhettyeakley 10-07-2017 01:18 PM

Very light on the PCL stuff for sure (only a few Zeenut cards), still there is enough other stuff to keep me busy. Always a fun auction.

There are a whole lot of D310s.

Brian Van Horn 10-07-2017 01:46 PM

I like that there are a lot of D381s.

I could use a few more Hamiltons...and Benjamins for that matter.

Rhett-

I kind of have the feeling that one or two old time collectors inserted a bunch fo Zees into the hobby a few years back, they were quickly gobbled up, and there just isn't that much new or interesting coming to the hobby for PCL collectors.

The McMullen Zeenut is an interesting one - and ±2 years before the 100 year anniversary of the Black Sox.

But I'd love to be surprised by the auction houses one day. See something crazy. Like a 1918 Lefty O'Doul or something.

pro9 10-07-2017 07:50 PM

No Newsboys, M110's or JK&A's. Also, as someone previously noted only a few W600's. I guess I'll have to make do with one of the other 2800 lots.

Topnotchsy 10-07-2017 08:19 PM

I definitely find that other auctions (Heritage, SCP, Goldin etc) generally have more items that fit my collection. I kind of view the REA catalog as a college textbook. I learn about sets and collectibles I had never heard of...

kmac32 10-07-2017 09:45 PM

Looked online and in general, nice stuff. Just nothing that I need.

frohme 10-08-2017 09:24 AM

Amen

Very thankful as well.... it helps having an extremely narrow focus.

+1. Not a single autographed pre-WWI card -- not even a signed T206 Marquard!

brianp-beme 10-08-2017 11:45 AM

Correct me if I am wrong, but I don't recall seeing a single t206 Ty Cobb with Ty Cobb back, 1919 Zeenut of Fatty Arbuckle, Allegheny Game Cards, nor a single W513 strip card.

In conclusion, this is an outrage, my congressman has been contacted, and the repercussions for the guilty party will ensue shortly. May the punishment fit the crimes committed.

Brian (happy auction for all, bidders, placeholder bidders, lurkers with dreams of bidding, and the have no intention of bidding types)

khkco4bls 10-08-2017 03:50 PM

I'll be honest with you I think it's a weak auction on their end
Then lie on the memorabilia side selling the Mickey Cochrane 12A glove which I owned and sold in the last auction and had to point it out to them that is the rarest glove of his that they get ever find and they listed as the only one and the only time they've ever listed it I can't be bothered talking to them cuz I wasn't happy the way they handle things regardless. I hate to say it but I believe they are not very good on the memorabilia side of auctioning equipment I think they're un -knowledgeable on some things

sgbernard 10-08-2017 07:20 PM

Only three t209s and all in a mixed collector grade lot. These cards have all but disappeared from the market in the last two years or so. You could usually rely on REA for a small lot or the like, but alas. My set is stalled!

Meanwhile, lots of other stuff!

Don't we all. There's plenty of stuff available that I'm interested in. But then again my collection is very unfocused. The only thing that will hold me back is a lack of available funds.

Leon 10-09-2017 06:50 AM

For those of us who are unfocused the auction is a cornucopia of opportunity.

I agree. Although I mainly collect 52 Topps cards, which this auction has a lot of, if I had more play money there are a ton of other cards that I'd love to also own.

EYECOLLECTVINTAGE 10-09-2017 01:48 PM

There are definitely a TON of cool items in this auction I'd love to own on the memorabilia side especially. Don't have many Clemente items, but that signed 71 WS program sure is tempting. Wish they had some Royals Jackie stuff for sure.

deltaarnet 10-10-2017 09:03 AM

I did find a couple of Cubs post cards:D

Buythatcard 10-10-2017 02:47 PM

Did everyone already receive their catalogues? I have received a catalogue for every one of their auctions in the past but have yet to receive one for this auction. :(

ullmandds 10-10-2017 02:48 PM

got mine yesterday

My wife knew the catalog arrived by the smell of it. She made me retreat to the basement with it.

ls7plus 10-12-2017 04:47 PM

With all due respect to Brian, I have twice pointed out that the representation that Babe Ruth only appeared in a handful of games in 1915 and thus it is remarkable that he was chosen to appear in the 1916 M101-4 and 101-5 sets is erroneous, yet continues to go uncorrected. In actual fact, the Babe was 18 and 8 with a 2.44 ERA for the Boston Red Sox in 1915 as a true 20-year-old phenom, almost certainly the most promising young left-handed pitcher in the AL. It would hardly have been a surprise that he was included in the 1916 sets.

Just venting, I guess,

Larry

spacktrack 10-12-2017 06:13 PM

Hi Larry,

Thanks for pointing that out. You're obviously correct--Ruth played 4 games in 1914 and had a greater workload in 1915. That line in the description was originally used in 2007 (coincidentally when this RC was last sold) and was inadvertently carried into this one. We've removed that reference and will be sure to eliminate it going forward.

Brian
