Looks like a stamp from the perforated edges. Any other cards in the set? The image doesn't really look that much like Ruth.

I have always wondered with other cards that "they" say it one player or another but it does say it anywhere on the card itself. Sometimes I think people put a players name on something just so it sells better in the end. I can anyone say for sure that the imagine was intended to be Babe Ruth?
