My guess is that they were sold locally around the university as souvenirs or whatever.

I will try to get a photo or two up later. I am not very adept at using the camera, uploading, etc. Unlike most guys, I don't worry a great deal about displays, though I do have one central "shrine." Our house has memorabilia hanging and sitting all over the place; on top the piano, over the fireplace, on the desk, hanging on the TV room wall, etc. However, most of the good stuff is in a room which has never been visited by any non-family member. Since no other people see them, they are totally for me to see, fondle, etc. Further, because my retirement resources are a bit limited, the collection is constantly changing.

I am looking for the elusive Mordecai Brown and, as far as I know, it will complete the early player photo boxes.
The Young is somewhat special because it once belonged to Young, himself.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Thanks Clint. I noticed the guy I won these from has not left feedback for the guy who won the other ball yet. He left me feedback as soon as I paid...I contacted the seller to let him know I would buy the other ball if the other guy doesn't pay for it. Unfortunately the ball he sent me has the box for the other ball so I'm assuming he put that ball in my box...I'd like to have the right box..especially if it has the NSL paper wrapping still on it. Not that big of a deal since I didn't even know he still had the original boxes with the balls since he didn't mention it in the auction. Just a bonus, but it will kind of bother me that the original box is out there and I got the wrong one.

Posted By: Mark
Wow... you have had terrible luck, Mike. That is such a shame. Ebay should add (as one of their DSRs) "Quality of Packaging", as this criteria is as impotant as any of their existing ones. I'd like to see Ebay replace the "Shipping charge" criteria with one for "Packaging". We can see what the shipping charges are for ourselves, so that one is basically worthless.

It is just amazing how many sellers provide minimal protection. I would definitely avoid sellers who have a low rating on packaging (if such a rating existed). It is such a no-brainer, and easily avoidable, too! Sorry to hear the bad news...

Posted By: Brock G.
Real sorry to hear that Mike. What a shame. I too have asked sellers on numerous occasions to handle with extra care and that I would gladly add extra $ to cover the shipping and handling. More often than not I get the 'dont worry I'll package with care' and sure enough I open the package only to find a fragile item wrapped in newspaper. Makes me want to stick to buying bats.

I agree %100 that quality of packing needs to be included in the ebay rating system. Who cares how fast a seller ships something if it arrives smashed to hell.
