Post a Cy Young & Vote for a Cy Young

This year there are 3 pitchers in the NL who all clearly had Cy Young-worthy seasons: Arrieta, Grienke, and Kershaw. Let's vote to see if we can guess who is going to win. Oh yeah, and post a Cy Young card if you have one, vote even if you don't.

My vote is for Arrieta

So, I know it is really Irv, but it says Cy. My vote goes with Zack Greinke. He is always overshadowed by Kershaw, I want to see him get some recognition. (sorry to have the Turner, it is all one picture)

Arrieta having one of those magical seasons, with a near-historic level of dominance.

Saw him pitch the Wild Card game in Pittsburgh, which was a sight to behold. Absolutely a man in his moment.

...And here's a Cy from the Vault, to make the vote stick.

Looks like Arrieta is running away with it. Perhaps that will change when all of the West Coasters check in. Here is a fun article about Arrieta's season, which begins with this:

Zero. Point. Seven. Five.

That’s become Jake Arrieta’s signature stat; 0.75 is the lowest second-half ERA in the history of baseball. Yet somehow it doesn’t capture just how dominant Chicago’s 29-year-old right-hander has been as of late. So, let’s try this instead: Since August 1, counting his four-hit shutout of the Pirates in the wild-card game, Arrieta has fired 97.1 innings, struck out 100 batters, walked 14, and allowed 46 hits, one home run, and an opponents’ batting average of .131. His ERA over that span?

Zero. Point. Three. Seven.

Note: I am a Brewers fan and am most certainly NOT a Cubs fan, I just like good pitching.

I'm picking Greinke. Led the league in ERA and WHIP, which are the hallmarks of a great pitcher for me.

One of the last images of Old Cy as a player

More rare Cy Youngs can be found on the website in the caption below, but this one stands out for a few reasons. It shows Cy Young wearing a Boston Braves uniform in 1912 in the only real photo postcard I have ever seen of Old Cy. This is one of the last images of him snapped in a major league uniform before he effectively retired after arm trouble prevented him from taking the mound in Pittsburgh on May 23 in what would have been his first 1912 appearance. The image can be dated to 1912 by the word Boston that appears across the uniform front and the Indian head logo on the left shoulder. The Braves' first game of that season was on April 11, so the image likely arose from a spring training game against a local team around Augusta, Georgia (where they did spring training) or as they traveled between Augusta and Boston (where they opened the 1912 season).

There are plenty of these floating around, but I surely regret letting this one go...

I say Greinke. At no time this year was his ERA ever over 2.00. Arietta, as awesome as his second half was, he still finished behind Greinke in ERA. That tells me Greinke had a better, more consistent year overall.

But, really, justice would be those guys tying.

I voted for someone else......

....any one of these 4 contemporaries of Cy Young...... :)

Arrieta had the slightly better year then the Dodgers dynamic duo.
