"Mail-In" Auction
I just received a hard copy list of items up for auction by Dan Aronesty. This appears to be a "mail-in" only auction, meaning you must submit your bids to him by regular postal mail. Can anyone provide me with any feedback on your dealings with him? Specifically, I'm wondering how conservatively he tends to grade his cards since there are no pictures on his list. Thanks for any help.

Is it on mimeograph paper?

He should get a 1984 postal rate just because. |
Seems about as convenient as bidding in Hunt Auctions.

Wow. Back to the 80s? 70s? Yikes.

I have purchased a few items from Dan and I was happy with the cards.

Have no opinion of the AH, but the format is suspect? Who would send their cards to an auction with this format? No eyeballs, literally.
And as a bidder, no transparency. Every lot has a arbitrary reserve price with out seeing the action, almost as if it wasn’t an auction and must treat like a best offer. My two cents. |
Yes, that's true, but...
All auctions in the hobby used to be like this. I'm sure Barry ran them this way in his early days. If the auctioner had a good reputation, it wasn't an issue.

Years ago auctions were done by mail. Twenty or fewer years ago, auctions were done by email were common. I ran did email auctions for a few years.

Interesting .... where do we find Dan's list ??
thanks, Another Dan |
Dans dealings !
I was on his site for about 2 years & won a lot of cards from it ? The football , Hockey cards seem to out do the baseball cards all of the time { Cond's } wise . So i had real good luck on those , but , with that said , I'd all most all ways have some type of problems in all but 2 of those & mostly:confused: was on the baseball cards ? So i just bid as if they were 1 to 2 grades down from the listings to help me out on them ?

Brian (Actually...I am a carbon copy of myself) |
I bid on his auctions for many years. Never had any problems. I quit bidding with him because it seemed he had less and less that I needed.
I didn't know he was still doing auctions. I would like to start up again with him and give it another try. Can you send me his contact info ? Thanks. |
WHen I first got into the hobby the auctions were mostly done on the phone. Those were the days. And with at least one auctioneer, if you were the last call, it was a glorious night. :)
|
And then we had Teletrade!!! Best AH ever! Always closed at 10pm sharp and had to make sure I got in on their phone system every night at 9:53PM. Think I built half a Cracker Jack set with them.
|
I'm assuming he's going to mail out the auction catalog....
|
Phone night /Friday night
Yes, Dan would take bids over the phone on a Friday night only . Also you could mail in your bid , too. But , when I dealt with him, i used the phone all of the time

Non Sport Guy's Do mail in auctions. There is a gentleman named Bob in the Wrapper Magazine Every issue doing sight unseen mail in auctions.

I had no idea mail bid auction we’re still a thing. I think the last time I mailed in a bid I was in middle school, so late 80’s.
|
Can I get the contact info for this auction house as well ?
