Perez-Steele

Are there any collectors out there who collect signed Perez-Steele cards? I have 49 of the postcards signed and am holding out for Koufax and Brett. Has anyone created custom postcards for post 2001 recent inductees?

I've collected a few of them, but not much anymore. Love them though.
Also, check out Dick Perez's website as he has examples of his artwork listed by team, so if you want to make a custom Perez Steele Barry Larkin, he has the artwork that would have been on it without the player's name, etc. I don't think he has all the later hof'ers, but he might have enough that you can print out some on quality paper/cardboard and make your own.

Yes, I have grabbed all the art that is available starting with Ozzie Smith in 2002 through Barry Larkin in 2012. The art from 2013 on has not been available. I have tinkered a bit but I am just not skilled enough with programs like Photoshop.

I collect the Great Moments. Out of the set 70 were possible to have been signed, and all but the last 3-4 are pretty easy.

Really nice collection. I collect the gold HOF postcards but the Perez-Steele's are nice looking.

Thanks for making me aware of this site too. Never knew there was something like this online.

I have almost all of the hof plaques, sans the newer greedy bastards. I have all of the Perez Steele hall of fame set signed, except for Paige, (sold the one I had, waiting for a better one) and Ryan (never got around to). Started collecting the other sets, Celebration, Great Moments, and Masterworks, but got bored and sold them off. The original hof set has the largest amount of possible signees, was fun, and expensive, putting it together. Never considered the newer guys though.....

How many possible signees does the original set have?

104, including the uber-rare Lloyd Waner.

i love collecting perez steeles as they are my favorite thing to collect, however i am struggling with one thing with perez steeles and that is sharpie fades on them over time (at least the ones i have did) in my humble opinion, there is nothing that looks better than a perez steel postcard signed in blue sharpie my only concern is the sharpie does fade over time.

I'm up to 87 in the HOF set, have not tried to get any in the last year or so.

MacDice 06-26-2016 11:37 AM

Why did they stop producing these?

Huck 06-28-2016 06:15 PM

I believe production of the cards ceased because Steele died. I wish another entity would team up with Perez and continue the series. I might cut production down to 5000 or even less.

Impressive. Were the cards purchased, in person or mixed?

All purchased. Just started around 5 years ago.

You are essentially correct. The 15th series of the HOF Postcards was released June/July 2001, which was one year after Frank Steele died (in June 2000).

Subsequently, Peggy Steele (Frank's widow) and Dick Perez announced that the series would be discontinued.

my absolute favorite HOF items to collect!

keithsky 07-15-2016 07:05 PM

I always like the postcard series. I actually have the original painting Dick Perez did for the Nellie Fox postcard and also I have the first painting he did for the Fox postcard but didn't like it so he redid it to the one that ended up being the postcard you see today. Pretty cool items and both one of a kind.
