Demmitt and O'Hara, together again

2 Attachment(s)
For a brief span of time since Lionel Carter's collection was broken up and sold in August 2007, his T206 Polar Bear cards of Demmitt and O'Hara were separated. The Demmitt has been in my collection for a little while, and this week I was able to add the O'Hara. Happy that these two have been reunited. Many thanks to the seller.

How many T206 cards from the Lionel Carter Collection can we show?

bbcard1 12-07-2012 07:41 AM

Congrats! Nice accomplishment...pretty cards...

Abravefan11 12-07-2012 07:43 AM

Rob - Congratulations on adding the O'Hara. Great to see those two cards together again.

Those are a perfect match Rob. Well done. How did you find it? Did you know the owner? My one and only Carter: (Not a T206 though)

I'm sorry for my ignorance, but I am unfamiliar with the rarities of T206's, but what is the provenance of the Demmitt and O'Hara? I know they are scarce, but what caused this? Did a plate break?

Thanks and sorry if you guys have talked about that a ton.

If i make any errors in this discourse, I am sure some of the wiser on the board will correct me, but Demmitt and O'Hara were traded to their new teams fairly late in the run and are only available in Polar Bear products with the new team designation and slight alterations to the pictures. They played very few games for their new teams and were not included in subsequent ATC offerings. Polar Bears were issued in the late part of 1910. It was also a scrap tobacco and not a rolled product so you are going to find very few without a few flecks of baccy on them.

I think it's pretty cool that your Plank must be the same Plank shown in Mr. Carter's album in George Vrechek's article.

Just a quick note regarding this info. Both Demmitt and O'Hara moved to St. Louis in late 1909. This was before any of the print group 2 (350 Only) subjects went into production. So all of their New York cards were printed after they were already playing in St. Louis. I don't want to derail Rob's post so if anyone would like to explore this further maybe we can start a separate thread.

This post reminds me of perhaps my favorite Hall and Oates song -- (This is a live version of a great song that barely made the top 30.

I just picked this up from Joe Yanello at http://joesvintagesportscards.com/ -- he listed a ton of Carter T206s recently.

Very stoked to get this one. The deep & nuanced greens are pack fresh.

Thank you for mentioning that, Brian. After reading your post I went to Joe's website and picked up a few more Lionel Carter T206s. I didn't know he had just added about 300 T206s to his inventory.

g_vezina_c55 12-19-2012 08:10 PM

Wow a lot of lionel carter cards on the market....
