Who is William C. Webb?

Posted By: Russ Bright
Hey there! I've been branching out from this board to see what else is out there (and you guys are still the best) BUT have gotten some cool offers for other things I wasn't sure of - now Here's the deal -

I have a guy who is offering me an autograped baseball from someone I've never heard of and can't seem to find any info about - maybe we have the name wrong?

William C. Webb, I Played with Shoeless Joe Jackson (that's what the autograph says) - 1925? maybe - he was 103 years old and signed this ball in 2004 - maybe a REALLY OLD southern league player? PCL maybe? any help is great! I went to baseball almanac and searched and couldn't find any players that were still alive or whose ages would correspond with this info.

If there is interest or answers I'll see if I can get a scan of the ball.

thanks!

Who is William C. Webb?

Posted By: Anonymous
I’ve been writing to Joe DiGangi since March. He never made it to the bigs but served as the Yankees bullpen catcher from 34-41. He knew Ruth, Gehrig, Joe D. and a host of other greats. His letters and autographs to me are priceless. On the open market, however, they’re probably worthless. Seems like your guy would fall into a similar category. It would be amazing to get to talk to Webb like the author of that link I posted did- but I don’t see any value in his sig outside of really diehard Joe Jackson fans.
