Does this t206 red cobb really look orange to anyone?

http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/...x?itemid=32214

Doesn't look any different to me than this one...not described as orange?

Good observation Pete. I have seen an orange background Cobb over the years, & this still appears to have a red background.

ullmandds 09-30-2014 06:44 AM

there are certainly varying degrees of red with this cobb...just as there are shade variations with practically every t206...and there are really orange ones that should command a premium/increased demand.

But this one...not so much to even warrant being called orange...atleast to me. I'm guessing the consigner urged this?

Wildfireschulte 09-30-2014 06:47 AM

The second one looks short to me - No doubt if I submitted it, SGC would send back "Auth"

ullmandds 09-30-2014 06:49 AM

2nd one does look short...but not trimmed...likely within normal t206 tolerances.

What about this one, i posted the Piedmont auction in the Ebay sell section thread a week ago. (they do have another currently on- which has several T206 cards and etc likeCJ & a Fritsch photo

chris...i'm not sure what to make of that one? scans aren't very good. to me...the black borders look suspicious...like maybe the card has been tampered with...but I wouldn't judge based on those images.

I see your point Pete, I could go either way on it. Let's just call it the burnt orange variation...

Vintagecatcher 09-30-2014 07:01 AM

Various shades from red to bright orange

I just did a quick search for Cobb T206 Red and I was hard pressed to find a nice bright red Cobb T206. The colors generally run the range from Fire Engine red to a rust color like our 1st example to a bright solid orange.

Burnt orange is my favorite color...and it's NOT even that!

Wow, the Plank T206 in this auction received a 2.5 grade bump going from SGC to PSA.

new scans

Hi Pete,

Since I know how much you love T206s :), I thought I'd add scans done this morning to this thread. There is a clear difference in color between the lot #181 Cobb ("orange") and all the other red Cobbs in the auction. As with any printing oddity, variation, etc., individual collectors will decide how they perceive and value the card.

Brian

Compared to lot #206

Compared to lot #194 (closer, but still different, and actually a bit more pronounced in person)

thanks brian...wow on the plank!

Lot 414: http://bid.robertedwardauctions.com/...x?itemid=32447

Looks like a good candidate for the next Net54 Group/Set break. Thoughts?

I love the Fine Pens and Wide Pens myself but not sure that Premiums are as well thought of by the majority of the board.

Yeah, I know. I was thinking it would be a relatively inexpensive way to possibly add a Pre-War HOFer to your collection that you probably would not purchase on your own.

I really enjoyed the '54 set break and just really want there to be a Pre-War one. The size of the lot (278 cards) and price point per slot seem to work based on how the '54 set went.

many hof'ers from this set can be purchased on ebay for 5-$20 as it is.

I like the premiums but I don't think there is enough overall interest in them to do a break with them.
