1909 T 206 advertisement

Just wondering if anyone has information as to what a Piedmont ad like this is valued at. I would like to purchase one but haven't been able to find one yet and curious as to what I may have to pay. Thanks for any info you have. http://t206resource.com/Sporting%20Life%20Ads.html

Very difficult to put a price on something like that. Some of the ads are more scarce than others. I have seen them go for $50 to way more....up to several hundred. Those shown are scarce and I have to think they would be in the 200-400 range....but again that is a guess based on other items I have seen sell. I should add, even my high estimate could be half, or less, of what two diehard collectors would pay at auction. I know because I have done it on obscure items in the past.

Finally one has come up for auction. It’ll be interesting to see what it brings.

You do see these pop up from time to time. In regards to the example in the current Lelands auction, with an opening bid of $500 bucks coupled with the 20% juice I'd be very surprised if this lot even gets off the ground. A lower starting bid would have at least given it some legs!

Just my opinion.

Agreed, the starting bid is too high.

It may be a high opening bid, but based on how long I have been looking for this September ad and how many auction houses that didn’t even know it existed until recently, I’ll likely have to pay up to get one.

Originally these were in bound volumes in an important sports museum. Scanned for posterity, this was sliced from the volumes so the spines are split.
Eh...

Looks like there was quite a bit of interest in this.

I collect Sporting Life newspapers/magazines

and have never seen an ad go for that much but it is the first ad with the Wagner card I have seen sold recently also. Most I have seen are is the ad that ran 4 or 5 weeks that has Rube Waddell in the top left corner...the Wagner ad only ran 3 weeks. I guess the inclusion of the Wagner T206 in the ad has something to do with it?

Personally I thought it was high at the $500 opening bid so I didn't bid

The ad with the Wagner might be as close as any of us get to owning one. Cool stuff!

There are a lot of collectors in our hobby who have a LOT of money. To a wealthy advanced T206 collector this was probably a nice piece to add to the collection, at almost any price.
