Posted By: TONY
Anyone want a 2007 Bowman card of Yankee wonder kid Joba chamberlain?
Saw one on ebay for $24,999

That's not a misprint

Let's see, for that much I can buy

A nice example of A

51 Mantle
51 mays
54 aaron
55 Clemente
& A 54 Kaline

Now that's a tuff choice
5 HOF'er rookie cards or a guy who's been in the majors a few weeks

Some people do indeed have more money than brains who buy these modern "rarities"

Posted By: T206Collector
The economic reasons that a piece of cardboard with a baseball players likeness on it has some material value is the same for Joba as it is for Joss. The pre-war crowd finds the Joba stuff ridiculous; the shiny crap collectors find the Joss stuff unappealing. The same principles of supply and demand apply for both.

Lajoie's 1933 Goudey card is scarce for the same reasons that this card is scarce -- limited factory availability. The fact that one 75 years older than the other is only relevant if you think older stuff is cooler.

It's a silly hobby if you think about it too much.

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Dennis, what has Joba done in the baseball world you ask? He helped pitch Nebraska to their one and only College World Series victory! That has to count for something.

He should drop the price a bit though since Chamberlain finally gave up an earned run last night.
