Despite precaution this is disturbing......

I think this seller just read 'The Idiot's Guide to Hyperbole.'
"My loss is your gain"
"WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET"

pokerplyr80 06-10-2018 09:43 PM

It actually does look like a perfect replica of the holder at least. That part is scary. Until today I was unaware fake cards are floating around in real, or real looking sgc holders.

oldjudge 06-10-2018 10:59 PM

Good fake, but black border line should not have a break in the UR corner.

nolemmings 06-10-2018 11:14 PM

Jay, that's not the same card that Brian linked. In fact, I don't know if it's just me but I can't see original scans from any completed listings. Click on original listing and I get sent to a totally different card if not seller.

Butch7999 06-10-2018 11:31 PM

Todd, it's a new eBay thing. After you click to see the completed listing and are instead sent to the page for a new auction,
click on the linked word "listing" in the blue bar across the top of the page of the new auction. That will get you to the
completed auction.

eBay has been doing this a lot lately. When it take you to the cheap reprint listing and it says at the top "The listing you’re looking for is no longer available" just click on the word listing and it take you to the original card OP was mentioning.

nolemmings 06-10-2018 11:36 PM

Thank you gentlemen.

So here's the fake:

Looks like someone cracked a holder. That’s a bad fake—really bad. If the other reprint card was put in this holder, that would be scarey.

nolemmings 06-11-2018 12:11 AM

FWIW, that was not the same style holder as the real card that matches that serial number (no gold foil on back).

While we're on the subject, here's another fake that sold, despite my notifying the seller well in advance for him to pull it:

Both holders appear to have major frosting. Buyers need to be aware of what a frosted holder looks like apparently.

jerseygary 06-11-2018 05:31 AM

I don't care what kind of holder it's in, that's one of the worst fakes I've seen - you can easily tell that by the back advertising lettering which was set on a contemporary computer using modern typefaces. That and the front looks like a Kinko's color copy circa 1987.

Leon 06-11-2018 06:27 AM

I hate it when I inform someone something is a very easily identified fake and they act like I have no idea (on those cards I usually do) what I am talking about and sell it just like it is anway.

ruth_rookie 06-11-2018 08:48 PM

What bothers me most of all about this is the fact that a reprint somehow found its way inside a legitimate SGC holder with an authentic flip that doesn’t say “reprint”. If I’m an employee of SGC, I immediately bring this to the attention of my boss and other SGC brass.

nolemmings 06-11-2018 08:50 PM

That is not a legitimate flip. The legitimate flip is associated with a blank-backed Ruth.

Please Read

I am beginning to hate the words "Please Read" in a description. And when it is said twice, well, I think we all know how that story ends.

I reported the listing to ebay before it ended, but as usual nothing happened...

I know he's saying its a fake card, but no seller should be allowed to make and/or sell a counterfeit SGC slab/flip as well. Not good.

+1 It is bad for all involved except the scammer. (as usual)

Yes, even with disclosure, there is nothing ethical, moral or excusable about the sale of the item. Despite the disclosure, I'd even go as far as to call it dishonest.

Though the Sporting News Ruth is a horrible fake. One of those "dermatology-challenged" cards.
