Posted By: DD
Hi Sean,
They used to make blank autograph books that sometimes had different colored pages in them. People would collect autographs in these books, and they were easy to store, and had a zipper around the outside to keep everything clean.

Also, at least when I was in school, we would purchase them and have our friends sign them, usually with some funny poem, when we graduated from 6th grade, and 8th/9th grade.

Your parents/grandparents would probably remember doing this.

edited - What I wrote above still holds true, but I thought it was just a cut sig; I didn't see part of his head beneath the yellow. I am old - LOL.

Posted By: DD
I think they cut it up because it could sell for more on the open market than just the signed plaque itself. It would make more sense if they inserted a redemption card for the McCarthy Plaque, rather than cutting it up. I really think people would crack less packs on average if the memorabilia was given away.

In the case of uniforms, etc., cutting them makes sense since they can use the same uniform over many different years to drive up demand. On the autos, unless it's purchased as a cut, I think they could just as easily give the entire item away.

Posted By: Richard S. Simon
I have seen signatures destroyed by the card companies for these cards.
The signature could not fit on the card, so they would just cut off a letter or two at the end of it.
--

I refuse to engage in a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.
Unknown author
--
We made a promise.
