Vote For 1951 All Stars!...

1 Attachment(s)
I am into production on "All-Star" cards for our '52 Play Ball Set.
Here's how far I got before realizing it might be fun to let folks here vote/select the team...Since the cards of these guys are already proofed, there are only 6 spots left...Kiner had a big year...Yost, by todays standards probably beats Kell...or not...so I'm gonna punt to the board! Vote away!
If there's enough participation, I'll produce whatever you guys vote.
THANK YOU!!!

Is this for NL only?
1B Gil Hodges
3B Willie Jones
SS Al Dark
OF Ralph Kiner
P Sal Maglie

You could also put Musial at 1B since he split time between 1B and OF and put Monte Irvin in the OF

If you want to make them realistic you are showing Ashburn in a uniform and hat he only wore in 1948.

Starting in 1950 The Phillies wore their red pin stripe uniforms

1B - Hodges
2B - Jackie Robinson
SS - Reese
3B - Thomson
OF - Musial
OF - Ashburn
OF - Snider
C -- Campanella
P -- Preacher Roe

"realistic" Lol...Yes...because photos are never used from 2 years prior to card being made. Ever...except 1/2 of the cards from the 1950s...
Now, if I used a photo from AFTER the date--that would be weird.

That being said, I am keenly aware of the uniform. In fact I always strive to use very meticulous year-appropriate photos. The regular issue card is the home pins. The roads were gray only with red numbers and wordmark logo on the front. I couldn't find another image that was the same frame and ratio that was from '50 or '51...PLUS, I love those uniforms. I did the regular card of Ennis in the '48 Road uniform, too. Just too a great image. But, thank you for your input.

No. It's ALL of baseball. Good point. I figure Kiner has to be in there...where does/doesn't Ted Williams fit? (Even though he was gone for '52--he had a good year in '51...
Your lineups are exactly what I was looking for!!!

Keep 'em coming!

Assuming it is for a 1952 set showing the best players of the season before (like Topps would always do) the following would be the lineup in my opinion.

1B- GIL HODGES
2B- J. Robinson
SS- AL DARK
3B- GEORGE KELL (Thomson is a good choice but he was more Utility in 1951)
OF- Musial
OF- Ashburn
OF- TED WILLIAMS (Had to sneak in another AL player, Kiner is also a good 3rd OF choice)
C- Campanella
P- WARREN SPAHN

1951 was really dominated by the NL as far as individual players are concerned.

OK for MLB you have to have Williams and Kiner, so either Hodges or Ashburn would have to go

1B- Hodges
2B- Jackie Robinson
SS- Dark
3B- Kell
OF- Musial
OF- Kiner
OF- Ted Williams
C- Campanella
P- Maglie

or

1B- Musial
2B- Jackie Robinson
SS- Dark
3B- Kell
OF- Ashburn
OF- Kiner
OF- Ted Williams
C- Campanella
P- Maglie

What do you guys think of Ed Yost?

YOST OPS .847
KELL OPS .786
They tied for league lead in doubles
Each had 11 SH--which was valued in the day

YOST 109 runs
KELL 92 runs

Yost out-homered Kell 12/2 and drove in more runs
Yost led league in games played as well

KELL batted .319
YOST batted .283

Defensively; Statistically, Kell was a tick better, but they're a wash on paper.

1951 ALL STAR line-ups

In my above post, I was under the impression that you wanted only a National League line-up.
Anyhow, here is my NL and AL line-ups played in an AL Stadium (I took the liberty of including
the DH batter....even though it was not in effect in 1951).
I'm fortunate to have seen all these guys play (either live at the three NYC Ballparks or on TV).

DH - Ashburn (one of the greatest lead-off batters)
2B - Jackie Robinson
OF - Musial
OF - Snider
1B - Hodges
OF - Kiner
SS - Reese
3B - Thomson
C -- Campanella
P -- Preacher Roe (1951 W-L = 22 - 3)

SS - Rizzuto (one of the greatest lead-off batters), 1950 AL MVP
RF - Minoso
LF - Ted Williams
CF - Joe DiMaggio
1B - Mize
C -- Berra
3B - Kell
DH - Eddie Robinson
2B - Nellie Fox
P -- Feller (1951 W-L = 22 - 8)
