OT: Who is going to the National:

I am just wondering how many Net54s are going to the National in Cleveland?

shernan30 06-07-2014 05:59 AM

I'll be, along with maybe 15 others, wearing a white OBC hat.

I Only Smoke 4 the Cards 06-07-2014 09:29 AM

I will probably be there during the weekend.

Runscott 06-07-2014 09:36 AM

David (Cycleback) and I will have a table with loads of vintage stuff (Wednesday-Sunday)

slipk1068 06-07-2014 09:50 AM

I was planning on attending. Then I got to thinking about the cost. I estimate it will cost me at least 1.5k in travel and lodging expense so I could walk around and look at over-priced cards. I can stay home, keep that money, and have it to spend on a fairly priced card which I can purchase from the comfort of my living room.

The downside is it is always fun to talk cards with folks and look at some really cool items. Just not sure that is worth the cost. Anyone want to try to convince me I am wrong and should attend?

You are going to the wrong tables, staying in the wrong hotels, and shopping at the wrong websites for airplane tickets. Either that or you are using the wrong spreadsheet software to calculate costs.

I will be at the National set up near the Ferris Wheel---I have 8 showcases of graded cards---Mayo's--Ginters-10 Ty Cobb cards---1930's-Loaded with Hall of Famers---I am breaking up at 1952 Topps set with a psa 5 Mantle--all the stars are graded from 6 to 8---Plenty of 50's breaking a 58 set with psa 8 Yellow letters---Plus other stars etc.---My cost for a plane was $460 round trip--hotel is expensive since I am staying at the Sheriaton close by but u can find hotels for $50 3 miles away----I will be setting up tuesday---This is always a great time for all the good reasons. Don

Nice assessment. I will add that I wouldn't ever convince someone to do something that they already figured out they didn't want to do. No win situation there.

I go because I always find something interesting and have a ton of fun seeing friends and meeting new ones.

Exhibitman 06-07-2014 03:14 PM

Not looking good for me right now. I hurt my ankle earlier this year and put off an MRI and possible surgery in the hope I could rehab it, but I was on vacation last week and after a few days of moderate city walking it blew up and is still agonizing. I will get it MRI'd and find out what's exactly happening but the MD suspects a shredded tendon that will need to be repaired. So, unless we find some sort of interim solution there is no way to do the show--after a few hours of roaming the floor the first day I'd be toast.

GehrigFan 06-07-2014 03:17 PM

Hope so!

Haven't heard from my boss but I believe I will be attending. I sure hope so. Only missed one since 1997. Great to see old friends and the museum quality items at the booths.

uffda51 06-07-2014 05:57 PM

Not this year. Two reasons. 1. Cleveland 2. Cleveland. Plan to be in Chicago next year . . .

brightair 06-07-2014 08:43 PM

One thing I will miss is the net54 dinner!

Moonlight Graham 06-07-2014 09:51 PM

Well, I'm from Cleveland and I still live in the area so I will be there every day. The renovation of League Park may be finished by then. It's in a not-so-great part of town but if any of you are interested in seeing it, let me know and I can give you directions on how to get there from wherever you're staying. Also, from there you can head to a probably worse section of town to see Big Ed Delahanty's grave at Calvary Cemetery, which in 1903, was one of the ritziest sections of Cleveland.

btkpath 06-08-2014 12:06 AM

I will be there on Friday. Looking forward to seeing as many friends as possible!

Runscott 06-08-2014 10:21 AM

Adam, that's why God invented alcohol. 3 hrs on the floor, 3 hrs in the bar. Best combo since peanut butter cups

Not attending this year, breaking an 11-year streak. As Leon always says "I don't care where it is", but a 4th trip to Cleveland exceeded my lifetime's quota.

Buck up, Adam. Next year, Silverman can push your wheelchair.

E93 06-08-2014 09:43 PM

I'm not sure if I will make it this year due to health issues. It will be my first miss in a number of years. I look forward to making it next year.

No go for me this year. My daughter is getting married and my attendance (and checkbook) is required.

Re: OT: Who is going to the National:

No Adam, Bill C., Jim B. and TBob. We may as well cancel the damn thing.

Re: Re: OT: Who is going to the National:

The only thing that could save this National is an appearance by Barry Sloate!

The last show I went to was in 1999. And my last National was probably twenty years ago. Given those facts, the odds aren't good. But thanks for remembering me.:)

Just cancelled my hotel reservation.

Runscott 06-09-2014 12:04 PM

Perhaps we could have a 'mini-National' in Barry's backyard next year.

PaintedGloves 06-09-2014 12:55 PM

I'll be there on Sat. and maybe Sunday. Can't wait!

If they had it at the Barclay Center I could walk over for a visit.

ullmandds 06-09-2014 02:15 PM

I am skipping it this year

No National for me this year. Havent been to one since Chicago in 2008 or 2009 as the hotel and flight costs make it cost prohibitive. For what I would spend on those things alone, can pick up a low grade E121 Ruth or quite a few W572 cards so why bother. Now if they would try it here on the West coast occasionally, that's another story.

Waiting for Atlantic City National

I'm waiting for the Atlantic City National.

Looks like a lot of competition on eBay this year during the National with all the others that are passing as well.

Best of luck to all who are attending.

Patrick
