Joe Dimaggio Pennant Help (BF3?)
1 Attachment(s)
I recently won some BF3 pennants from Hunt Auctions, and one of the pennants was the below Joe DiMaggio pennant. However, this pennant doesn't seem to easily fit in the different types of 1936-37 (or 1930s) BF3 pennants. Does anyone know what type of pennant this is? BF3 type or another pennant altogether? These are the first vintage pennants that I have purchased, so definitely interested in learning more about them.

Someone will probably correct me but I think this is what is known as a BF 3 Type 7.

Dimaggio Pennant Help
I agree with the prior reply. It is a BF3 Type 7. These are a little longer than the others, around 5 1/4 to 5 1/2 inches.

This group of pennants is listed in the Standard Catalog as type seven BF3s. But due to their size variation from other BF3s there is some controversy about their placement in the catalog. Several noted collectors think these pennants are rightly BF4s. Burdick,in his book, lists a slightly larger pennant that he calls a BF4. But this pennant cannot be found in any listing and as a result many rightly believe that the type seven BF3s are actually the missing type BF4s.

Thanks for the information. Awesome Type 7 collection, Matty!
For Type 2-3, do they just have block script and cursive script variations (in addition to color variations)? Or are there other variations to chase? See the picture below for some of the cursive script variations. Also, I assume there are too many color variations to count? Thanks! |

I am a bf3 addict. Here are my type twos. I am not into color variations.
