Don't rain on my parade, Franklin. It been a lifelong dream to start the monthly pickup tread, and I got up at 5 in the morning, praying I would be first. :D:D:D

I can see why you were in such a rush to start the thread. Nice pick ups

Ah yes. White Castle's rat burgers give the term "sliders" a whole new, and rather disgusting, meaning.

Lummis Peanut Butter/Sealtest Printers Proofs
Lummis Peanut Butter/Sealtest Printers Proof cards.
The only two of these that were actually issued are the Rowe and the Seminick. Given the inclusion of Pennock, these were likely produced some time in 1947 or very early 1948. The sets were not released until 1949. All of the cards are different sizes, as if they were trying to find which one would work best for their needs. Not just the overall size of the proofs, but also the interior images are of different sizes. These are so interesting as the names and the borders along the images are both raised. Just incredibly interesting stuff. I have to think that the Pennock is his last image on a card before he passed away. I will be making these available shortly in the BST. http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...sxjgdmlmc.jpeg http://i792.photobucket.com/albums/y...sgwjgkj7e.jpeg Tom C |
Happy to pick up a decent T209-2 example for a decent price.

T206 Murray Auto
Extremely happy to pick up this new addition to my signed T206 collection. Long gone are the days of paying a few hundred bucks for one of these. I've never seen another Red Murray autographed T206 -- and, frankly, didn't know that this one even existed until a fellow Net54'er alerted me to last night's Hunt auction. With this addition, I now have 39 different T206 poses autographed (not including Matty and McGraw signed by their widows).

Though
Ok so technically they are a late September pick up but I didn't get a chance to post in the September thread...
Usually all I have to share in the pre-war pick up threads are some low grade Cardinals & Browns cards (which I love!!). This time I have something a little more exciting to share! Picked up this group of 3 T206 including a Starr with Drum back. For me the find of a lifetime! I also understand the Lundgren is a somewhat tougher front/back combo too. http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/...psk3j8vtgr.jpg http://i1281.photobucket.com/albums/...psch69rkyd.jpg Thanks, Scott |
Amazing find indeed on that Drum back!! Congratulations.
On the Lundgren EPDG, the tough one is the Chicago Lundgren, not the KC one. Tom C |

Beautiful Ed! Happy to help out on this project any time. I love it!

Wow incredible find. That Lundgren EPDG is definitely tough and that Drum ...where did you find such t206 treasures?

[QUOTE=Robextend;1457921]Now at 197 Tolstois and counting...
That's an impressive collection of Tolstois... But I have to say I love the Red Schoendienst rookie card!! Great pick ups! Scott |
Some 1928 Upgrades...
1.) Sid Cohen (Tough Card!) 2.) Wally Berger (1st Ever Card of future Major League star) 3.) Dolph Camilli (1st Ever Card) 4.) Howard Burkett (Jesse Burkett's son, it is said his biggest regret in life is that Howard never made it in the Majors--apparently he couldn't hit the curveball!) http://www.starsofthediamond.com/28zeecohen.jpg http://www.starsofthediamond.com/28zeeberger.jpg http://www.starsofthediamond.com/28zeecamilli.jpg http://www.starsofthediamond.com/28zeeburkett.jpg |
Would love to hear the story on that Drum find and where that one came from. What a great card!

Love love love that Red Murray. I bowed out late. I knew the price on that would be strong. I've never seen one before.

Was fortunate enough to win this beauty last night !

Return of the Jedi
Well, after about ten years in the wilderness, not exactly like John the Baptist, and minus a London house and a wife, I, John Spencer, have returned to the US, where I am now living in Stuart, Fl on the East Coast. And what better way to start building a new life than to re-embrace my first true obsession - old baseball cards. The first order of business was to form, out of the ashes of Full Count (some might remember that fine old firm,) a new LLC, Past Ball Vintage Cards, and the second was to join this august forum. Leon and I go back away.
In keeping with the thread, although my pick up was September, I was thrilled to get in Leon's auction both E92 Harry Davis Croft Candy Red and Blue. Wow. Nice to be back. Yoda |
Finally!

Bud Teachout was a good friend's grandfather, and I have purchased a few cards for him over the past few years. This is his earliest card (one that I already had, but wanted to keep for myself, ha)! Now, we both have one! Thanks, Rhett. Pretty sure I purchased my other example from you, too.

Signed T206 Marquard
It's been a good week for signed T206 pickups! Here's my latest -- with an Old Mill back, which may be the only one of its kind. Somewhat of an upgrade for my other one, which will probably make the rounds on the B/S/T or ebay or something in the coming days or weeks.

Picked these Series 4 T210s in Leon and Scott's auction and also an orange border T210 Series 3 card. Thanks really filled the holes in the Series 4 collection.
Now as soon as I receive them, they are off to SGC. |
