1973 Topps Schmidt

even though I have been collecting for over 40 years I am not too knowledgeable on the grading of cards.

I joined this forum to educate myself a little better, especially after reading about all of the card doctoring going on.

With that said, I am in the market for a nice Mike Schmidt rookie card. Preferably a PSA 7 card. This card does not look right to me. Any comments?

Thanks, Tom er Mortimer

My initial thoughts are that this probably left the factory cut that way. Most times cards like this would be sent in for grading, they'd be rejected for factory miscut: atypical cut for the issue.
Giving number grades to factory miscuts is something that PSA has become more lenient on the last two years or so. It's probably untrimmed, IMO, but is an eyesore if you're looking for the normal eye appeal of a PSA 7.
I don't think any real trimmer would submit a card looking like that; it's too tilted and really couldn't be cut down to make it look "right."

I think find one more to your liking or it will haunt you.

Card looks fine to me for the issue. '73 Topps was notorious for tilt and cut problems. I've had several different Schmidt rookies in the past, and searched for awhile before I found one this last time that had those characteristics, but mild enough to be acceptable to me. Finding a dead-nuts centered Schmidt with no tilt may be impossible; I don't know that I've ever seen one.
