Flea Market Pick Ups
I had the chance to go to a couple of flea markets in NYC over the weekend between family wedding events and picked up a few items. Here is one:
Wilson A2121 model Billy Loes glove: http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ze/image_1.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ze/image_2.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ze/image_3.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...ze/image_4.jpg It is in really nice shape: supple leather, no signs of rot, nearly all of the silver ink intact, what looks to be original lacing and details. |
Nice pickup. Loes was underrated as a third baseman.

Loes, not Cox

He was so under-rated as a third baseman, even the Dodgers, Orioles, and Giants used him as a pitcher! And Billy Cox was so under-rated as a third baseman, Jimi Hendrix used him as a bass player. (sorry guys, I'm just having fun with you).

I'm such an idiot. I was just thinking about what posted and realized what I did. I wasn't even on net54 when it dawned on me. So much for being "the baseball history guy" my friends hold me to. Oops.

I was just ribbing you, I am sure you forgot more about baseball than I have ever known.

I also found this 1927 photo from the Dempsey-Tunney II "Long Count" fight. It shows the fighters and promoter Tex Rickard over Soldier Field in CHI where the fight was held. Still has the Underwood & Underwood slug attached to the back. I cannot imagine a better promo photo for the fight:
