Cards That Should Have Been
I have two:
1. Ty Cobb Green Portait on a T3. 2. A Joe Jackson T206 portrait. I just think the Cobb in a larger image would have been outstanding. Do you guys have any thoughts on cards that should have been? |

Any T206 Joe Jackson would be neat, but it would probably mean one more card that most collectors would not have in their incomplete 'complete' sets. I would lean toward an action shot on this one (probably it is fairly obvious that I am man of action). My pick would be a 1937/38 Zeenut of Ted Williams with the San Diego Padres. The manufacturers decided not to include any Padres players in these years, a break from all their previous Zeenut years where all the teams in the PCL were represented. So thus no Teddy Ballgame. |
Even though Robin Yount was included, there are proofs for a 1975 Hostess George Brett rookie card but it was never included in the final issue.

How about a Jim Thorpe T210/T209 that would be cool!

1934 Goudey Ruth. 1935 Goudey Gehrig. 1938 Goudey Gehrig. 1948-51 Bowman DiMaggio. |

A 50 and 51 Bowman DiMaggio would have been great. And I really like the idea posted earlier of a T205 Wagner. |

It certainly should have been.

You guys have all made swells picks, especially the T-206 Joe Jackson. I'll add: T-3 of Joe Jackson and Joe Wood T-206 Joe Wood T-206 Colby Jack Coombs 1933 Delong Babe Ruth 1933 Delong Dizzy Dean (horizontal shot) 1933 Delong Mel Ott 1933 Delong Gabby Hartnett 1933 Delong Ted Lyons 1933 Delong Paul Waner IS ANYONE ON HERE INFLUENTIAL FRIENDS WITH THE "LOVE OF THE GAME" FIRM THAT LOVINGLY FABRICATED THE 2013 CRACKER JACK BABE AND THE 2014 DIAMOND STAR BEAUTIES? It's not too early to present them with a grand idea for the 2017 National. Probably the best people to contact is Memory Lane Auctions, the firm that sponsored the CJ Ruth and this year's Lucky 7 Ty Cobb reprint. Boy, that Cobb was a honey in its serial-numbered /500 PSA case, and housed in the custom wood display box it came in---pure quality. In conjunction with my E-book on a CD, NEVER CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN, and with the help of an artist/computer graphic artist and a very conscientious print shop worker, I managed to create a couple post-war dream cards, with 2 versions of each: 1954 Wilson Franks Mickey Mantle 1954 Wilson Franks Jackie Robinson I was extremely pleased with them. They were designed at precisely the correct size, with pastel color backgrounds, semi-gloss sheen, and period autographs with a fine point pen. I had a lot of fun writing the backside write-ups. Oh, and in small type on the backside is to be seen the year they were printed. A very fulfilling dream to complement my dream of writing a hobby book.:D This topic pops up every once in awhile, and always seems to illicit some very heart-felt responses! ---Brian Powell |

I agree with many of these already mentioned.
T206 Jackson 1915 CJ Ruth The other 200 T205's. Man, that could have been the premier set in the hobby. And too bad we didn't have a large 200+ color set from the mid/late 20's. 1953 Bowman Color set extended to 252 cards (same as the 52 set) to include Robinson, Mays, Williams, etc. That could have been another premier set. Add Musial to any of the 50's Topps sets. |
1948 Bowman...
Red Sox players... woulda, shoulda been sweet!

A benny Friedman from his playing career .
1952 topps Ted Williams high number or sachel page . 1951 red backs Mays and mantle . |
54 & 55 topps Mantle Campy and Musial
52 topps Joe D |
For fans of post-war material, I created a whole slew of missing 1972 'in action' HOF'er cards awhile back. Check it out:

You can see where my collecting interests lie:
1915 Cracker Jack Babe Ruth 1929 Leader Novelty Babe Ruth 1929 Leader Novelty Lou Gehrig 1931 W517 Mini Babe Ruth 1933 Butter Cream Lou Gehrig 1933 Delong Babe Ruth 1933 George Miller Babe Ruth 1933 George Miller Lou Gehrig 1933 Uncle Jacks Lou Gehrig |
Old Judge Frank Grant
Batter Up Gehrig 33 goudey Connie Mack |
I have often wondered why there is not a Cracker Jack Jim Thorpe. He did not have a lot of at bats in 1913 or 1914, but he was still a huge name at that point and would have made sense to be in the 1915 set at the very least.
|
1933 Goudey: both Ruth & Gehrig
1934 Goudey: Gehrig only 1935 Goudey 4-in-1: Ruth (Braves) only While I understand 1934 Goudey's more of an "update" to 33G, featuring primarily new players after the first series, I'd enjoy either of these: 1934 Goudey Ruth Goudey 4-in-1 with both Babe and Lou in pinstripes |

Eddie, thanks for explaining that. I never knew that CJ added players. I thought that Pratt and Mathewson were the only changes (besides the backs being flipped). :)
