Post this in the July thread before I realized there was an August one:
I have no idea what the date of issue for this is but I absolutely could not pass up this Harry Coveleskie card when I saw it pop up on eBay. Such a cool piece for the "Giant Killer" and signed on the back too: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4291/...2c1b428e11.jpg https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4304/...a40b59f466.jpg |

Obviously it has it's issues, but still thrilled to pick up this iconic card within my budget.

Pretty appropriate 1887th post. Added this to my Nash run at the NSCC. Thank you Glenn. Turns out I need the other pose if still available!

Not much here and surely not much compared to others with your T206s, etc. But here's my pickups. The McCovey was in a $1 box at a show this weekend, so it wasn't technically August. But close enough.
Thinking about sending the Banks and Mantle to PSA. Just don't know if I want to do the $20 or whatever just for 2 cards. Anyway, here's the goods.... http://i.imgur.com/RMUuZ06.jpg?1 |
You could send in the Banks and Mantle on Bobby's group submission for cheaper than you could do it yourself.
|
I'm really hesitant to send off with someone I don't know and have never dealt with.

My two very casual purchases from the National
Went in as a fresh and new National-ie. The sights (1.2million dollar cards afoot), sounds (lots of chatting and sports talk), and even smells (cafeteria food and body odor) made it all a fantastic experience.
I asked every dealer I saw with vintage if they had any Johnny Klings. I would say at least 49 out of every 50 tables said they had none, because the only two folks who had Klings, I bought from! :]. First is the 2.5--got a very generous deal on this from the dealer. I am very happy with the corners on this card and overall appeal--doesn't get much better for a 2.5! https://www.collectorfocus.com/image...ling-sweet-cap This one was a duplicate, but I couldn't pass it up for the price: https://www.collectorfocus.com/image...ther-sweet-cap This makes 7 (I think) for the Kling back run, with a few more possibly on the way over the course of the next week. -NJ :) |

August is off to a great start. Nice pick ups guys.
Greg - That Gehrig painting is way cool! |
Gehrig painting
I agree with Dean, that's a very cool painting. Makes me think what a Diamond Stars Gehrig would've looked like.
|
I don't know the going rate for the Kling raw, but it's nice to see that there are some oldies at the national that are affordable. It gives me hope!

Still chipping away on the entire T210 set, at least I am only one orange border away from that subset.
Thanks to Sterling Auctions (Lee B.) for making these available. Tough to find in any condition. |

One less card on my bucket list. Very excited to get a hold of this and made a great contact out of the the seller -- sometimes the contacts/friends we make buying and selling is better than the card we buy/sell.
|
Excellent acquisition Ryan. And it's nice that you made a new friend. It sort of makes up for some of the a_ _ holes that we come across in this hobby. :)

I remember back in 1991 we were talking Old Baseball Cards on the Prodigy bulletin boards. Someone posted looking for cards of a relative who played baseball in the late 1800s, Doc Bushong. I don't know why I remembered this, but I can still picture that Scrapps tobacco card someone posted about.
Thursday at the National, I visited Net54 member Taxmechanicks' (Glenn) table, and picked up an 1887 Buchner Gold Coin card of Doc Bushong. Leaving behind that Scrapps tobacco card of Bushong that I still remembered. I think my reason for choosing the Buchner Gold Coin card was #1 it was older #2 I liked his picture in the catchers gear. Back at the hotel Thursday night, I regretted not purchasing the Scrapps tobacco card, and planned on hitting up Glenns table first thing Friday to purchase the Bushong card I left behind. Thankfully it was still available. So now I collect Doc Bushong!
