Joe Louis-Max Schmeling cast iron bank
 

Snapped a quick photo of this at an antique store yesterday - anyone have any info on this cast iron bank?

Was this ever made as an original in the 1930s-40s, or is was it made much later (90s maybe?) to commemorate the fight? I really just want to know if this is a remake of an old original, or is it strictly a "fantasy" piece.

The shop worker knew nothing about it. There are no maker markings on it and the ropes are slightly dirty/worn, but overall the piece is very clean and not worn. The opposite side has the same wording as the side you can see.

Looks like a fantasy or folk art piece to me. Neither guy looks remotely like Louis or Schmeling either.

Black guy and a white guy.

Brits did something similar over the last couple hundred years. Made up generic looking black and white figures of bare-knuckle boxers and would name one Molineaux for "Thomas Molineaux" and Cribb for "Tom Cribb".

There's even a version out there they have the names mixed up on the wrong colored boxer.
