There is another thread asking about “the” Mt. Rushmore of cards. This thread asks that you post YOUR Mt. Rushmore - your 4 cards that would be your Mt. Rushmore. The beauty here is it’s totally up to you - no right or wrong, no debate. I will start:

Definitely great cards. There are some board members who I know very well that could also play a heck of a game of this (and they won't post them.) Personally, I have no Mount Rushmore. Maybe I have a big ant hill though!!

+1. There are lots of members with unbelievable collections who do not like to post cards. The way I figure, you all are the only ones who get and dig this hobby/obsession- my wife and kids don’t want to look at my cards, my friends think I am nuts, but what good is having them in a safe and not sharing. That’s why I post my digital collection in my signature block.

Regardless of high dollar, beater, rare, common, they are cards and we love them and I think we should share with others who feel the same.

Some are being modest and some probably don't know how to post pics on here. Here are a few...

I certainly can't compete with the wonderful pre-war beauties posted here but I figured I'd throw my favorites up here anyway. If I only had time to grab five cards from my collection before it burned these would be the ones...for various reasons.

'57 T Brooks R...The rookie card of my favorite player
'78 T Murray…because I love everything about this one. My favorite 'modern' card
T206 Matty...this was my first valuable pre-war card. I bought it in the 70s at one of my first card shows. I still enjoy just looking at it.
'59 T Gibson...the only card to have survived from my childhood collection. I recently found a nicer one (almost any example would have been a 'nicer' one) for my '59 binder but this copy still holds sentimental value for me
'32 Sanella Ruth... Well, it's Babe Ruth. Prior to buying this card years ago I never thought I would own a career era Ruth. This card made that goal attainable.

Ryan, when did you get that Mathewson? Great card, I wish I still had mine, but sometimes I have to give up one to get another.

A very sage and astute observation, sir. However, I extend my sincere sorrow to you over your family not wanting to look at your cards. Mine do; however, I only show a few of my special ones to them only occasionally. I suppose they enjoy sharing my joy over them because I have been pleased to take a good interest in their pleasures and pursuits. We're a very close family.

However, your situation may be totally different than mine, and I'm sure you and your family are very close, too. Our collections that we cherish and their relationship to our family is usually complicated, tricky, and demands thoughtful care and mutual compassion among family and friends.

Funny, when I have shared a few cards from my collection, an acquisition I was excited about, or told of my book on post-war regionals, this board has almost always given me the silent treatment. Then again, the post-war board is often not well-participated, depending on the thread---a true exception is the Mickey Mantle ALL THE TIME thread, which has now generated over 350,000 views.

Here are two of them. The Jackson was originally graded before the advent of half grades. It has since been graded a 4.5.

Great cards Corey-probably the finest known examples of each. Let’s see some more.😁

Batters Monument....Mt. Rushmore + 1

I would start with one of the "Wright brothers" :) …...Alexander or Harry.
However, I don't have a card of Alexander Cartwright, but I have an artist's illustration of Harry Wright (and the gang)……..

And, "Mt. Rushmore" would not be complete without Henry Chadwick (there's enough rock on the mountain for at least a 5th face)......

Great Wagner, Corey. It almost looks strange to see an unholdered example, but very refreshing.

I would think Albert Spalding should be in the mix. He had to be the most influential figure in baseball from the 1870s through the early twentieth century. And we'll throw in the Wright brothers to boot.

oldjudge 11-15-2019 03:23 PM

Corey-Was something once written under the PITT in Pittsburg on the Wagner image? It almost looks like a “VS” or “NS” in the background.

Jay,

I'm looking at the photo of the card that was used to create the posted image, and comparing it to photos of other Wagners, and they look the same.

In all the years I've owned the card and have shown it to people, no one has mentioned what you are referring to.

oldjudge 11-15-2019 04:22 PM

Corey: Look at the image you posted and expand it slightly and look under the PITT. Maybe it is the scan, but I see a clear "S". It starts at the first "T". Does anyone else see this?

Jay,

I don't know where you are going with this, and maybe I need my eyes checked, but I am not seeing what you are seeing.

It could be in the background. I'm not going anywhere. I just noticed it and thought I'd ask. I still think it is the finest copy in the hobby. It's like background stuff people don't see. Here-how about a quiz:What word is in the image area of Anson in Uniform?

After a LOT of looking I see what you are seeing. It is just the ink pattern and you passed the Rorschach test. I kinda see Homer Simpsons face under the U.

My own self-imposed rules are that my four cards be portraits, since Mt. Rushmore doesn't cotton to action shots, and be semi-random ones I have scans for, whether I still own them or not, as Mt. Rushmore is for the enjoyment of the people of the United States, not just for some hoarder. And no Canadian born players! (Sorry George Gibson and Larry Walker)

The S appears under the TT on wags shirt, i can make it out, interesting

Anyone know the answer to the Anson in Uniform question? Cheating with on line images is allowed.
