Kickoff for Old Cardboard Hold'em 2009 Series Tonight

Posted By: Lyman
The January tournament played last evening was great fun for all. In total, 17 players battled for top spot but in the end Rawn Hill of South Paris, Maine proved to be King of the Hill. Rawn insists that this was the first time EVER that he has played Texas Hold'em (sure Rawn, and if we believe that then you will be telling us that you have an Eifel Tower for sale (to be shipped direct from South Paris)!! Actually, Rawn played lots of poker (not Hold'em) in the Navy and has spent many hours watching Hold'em on TV. "It's just beginner's luck," says Rawn. Whatever! Anyway, congratulations Rawn for a well earned win.

Detailed results of the January tournament will be posted on the Old Cardboard website later this week. Meanwhile, Old Cardboard Tournament #2 for 2009 is now open for registration. It is PokerStars #136999776 set for February 24 at 20:30 ET (7:30 Texas Time); password for registration is e107e107.

Thanks again for all who participated. Hope to see you at the tables next month.

Lyman

PS: will "bobw2000" who played in last evenings tournament please send me an email at editor@oldcardboard.com. Thanks, LJH

Posted By: Rawn Hill
Yes, it was my first actual tourney and I asked everyone to take it easy on the rookie. It helped when I figured out how to place a bet. Steve Murray gave me great advice and told me to go all in on "22", which I did twice. Joshua should have had me a few times, but it must have been my "Rough" play that made him fold.

As a side note: the shipping charges for the tower delivery will be a bit high.

Rawn

Posted By: J Levine
Rawn played well, I certainly should have had him at the end as I had double his stack at the start of the head to head play...of course, I could not catch a single hand then...I think my last hand was my best two starting cards and I think it was A8!! Rawn did play pretty well for his first tourney.

I do have to say that things looked grim when I hit the final table and played from behind for most of the night...It was enjoyable as always.

Joshua
