Koufax help

2 Attachment(s)
I have an opportunity to purchase the attached signed 1964 Topps Koufax card. The story is that the seller worked for British Airlines and got Koufax to sign this card before walking on to a flight to London from Florida . I have a number of Koufax autographs that were signed for me in the early and mid 70s. There are similar characteristics to this one, but I don't feel confident.

Your thoughts as to its authenticity are appreciated greatly.Attachment 598014

Thanks so much.

I agree with you Robert

I would pass as well, Robert. ;)

In the 1970's, someone who works for a foreign airline just happens to have a '64T Koufax in their pocket as Koufax boards. Plausible.

Thanks for your great feedback. I passed.

I agree that although there are things I like about the signature, there are too many things that would make me shy away. The whole story doesn’t add up despite the signature. I’m 50 / 50 on the signature.

Thanks again for your expert opinions.

I'm right there with you. Exactly how I feel. I wouldn't touch the thing. If you're willing to spend a fitting amount (that's the true key here), this card can be found. If you want one on the cheap, you'll be spending way too much of yours and others' time dealing with "Is it real?". What's your time worth to you?

If the story were true it's much more likely the autograph would have been on a boarding pass or ticket envelope.

I thought the same thing. That's precisely why you see so many signed boarding passes/envelopes. These are normally chance encounters, not, "Oh, maybe I should just keep old Topps cards in my pocket in case some players show up!". Talk about making an autograph more suspicious by adding unneeded detail to the story.

Big Koufax fan. Have several of his autographs. Don't like this one too much.

Thank you, Richie. I passed on it a while ago. I really appreciate your feedback.
