1949 Schumacher Service Station "bonus stamp"
Just arrived from the recent Heritage auction:
http://www.ellisburkscollector.com/i...ce_station.jpg On the back, between "Service Station" and "Wheel Alignment & Complete" is a stamp or wrapper transfer. If I flip the image upside down and horizontally, you can read "Spearmint - Peppermint ...... and Hawaiian Fruit." http://www.ellisburkscollector.com/img/sss_back.jpg Does anyone recognize what gum/candy that may be from? |
Looks like it had a stick of Curtiss gum stuck to each card as a bonus.
Here's a bad photo, but you can see how it matches up http://http://thumbs4.ebaystatic.com...IMq435evBQ.jpg |

Perfect! Thanks, Justin. It would be interesting to see if other Schumacher backs had the same transfer. Off to look.... :) Thanks for the comments, Mark and sflayank (I think you are correct about the A grade.) |
Just a quick follow up...
It appears Curtiss gum was attached to the Schumacher cards. Here is another example, courtesy of beckett.com: http://img.beckett.com/images/items_...85571/back.jpg |

Jason, my Schumacher - Stephens example has this same whatever-it-is on the back.
