Worst Last Card?

I know we've discussed the worst looking Rookie Cards (Pete Rose, anyone?) but what about the worst looking regular issue last cards of notable players?

Being a Killebrew collector, his '75 Topps leaves a lot to be desired. But I think Willie Mays '73 Topps beats it. It looks like someone handed him a bat for the first time in his life and said "Hold this for the photo".

Not to mention the fact that he is in a Mets uni...

Based on the seemingly terrified look on his face, maybe he thought the guy taking the picture was some crazy fan and he's getting ready to use the bat in self defense?

Mays

Guy still looks jacked, though...look at those guns!!!

scmavl 08-15-2011 07:39 PM

I noticed that. It's the only thing he has going for him though...

Anyone have anything else?

Tie

1965 topps Spahn or Berra...yikes!

I was going to say the 65 Spahn but was beat to it. How about the 48 Leaf Wagner, especially with the chewing tobacco; it should lower the value of the T206 IMHO.

Doug 08-15-2011 10:04 PM

That '65 Berra is like looking at a gargoyle. That's a hard one to beat. I was seriously afraid that if I stared directly at it for too long I'd turn to stone.

No doubt it's Honus Wagner, you go from the most beautiful t206 to this:

1977 topps Brooks Robinson, he looks like someone who should be in beer league softball.

That is also one I thought of posting. It looks like a mid 40's guy with a beer gut posing for a Little League photo. But I love Brooks so I hated to do that...

I just saw the Wagner and WOW... That's bad.

i always found it ironic that that card shows Wagner putting what looks like chew in his mouth, when it was tobacco that made his t206 card the most famous card in the world

I don't care much for the 1973 Clemente.

scmavl 08-20-2011 11:18 AM

If '72 had been Clemente's last card, this one would've won for sure.

What is he even doing??

I would say he struck out on a BS call by the ump when it was clearly a ball. If only the cards could talk.....

I always imagined from his expression that he knew it was a strike but was guessing a different pitch. But your explanation is more plausible, as I think Roberto tended to get his hacks.

Sorry, but I just think he was hearing "Burn baby, burn... Disco Inferno!" in his head.

You're right, Eric! Didn't even know he appeared in the 84 set!

Really not a big fan of those early 70's star cards from the likes of Mays, Aaron, Banks, etc... Basically all the big stars that started in the mid/late 50's. Truthfully, its prevented me from completing these sets, as I just can't bring myself to buy these cards for $10-$20. Also not a fan of the later Schimdt, Brett, Yount type cards of the late 80's. Their early cards from the 70's were cool, but I have such a dislike for anything newer than the early eighties

Not a big fan of the 70 Aaron or 76 Aaron or some of Ted Williams later cards like 58 Topps he looks like an old mann
