T205 Back Evaluation

An evaluation of the differences in cost between the various T206 back advertisements seems to be fairly well established.

Does such an evaluation in cost exist for T205s???

Anyone care to share some thoughts and opinions on this?

Greg,
I add this just as a guide, because I have clearly seen both under and over cost for these backs. Most of these numbers came from the T205 Database that circulated several years ago, and I have seen be more accurate for commons than for HoF players. The multipliers here have not been updated in 2-3 years, so there may be some discrepancies from today's values.
American Beauty, Black (1.6x)
American Beauty, Green (1.8x)
Broadleaf, Black (8x)
Broadleaf, Green (8.5x)
Cycle (1.2x)
Drum (>30x)
Hassan, Fac. 30 (1.3x)
Hassan, Fac. 649 (1.1x)
Hindu (>30x)
Honest Long Cut (1.1x)
Piedmont, Fac. 25, (VA)
Piedmont, Fac. 42 (NC) (3.4x)
Polar Bear
Sovereign (1.2x)
Sweet Caporal, Fac. 25 Black
Sweet Caporal, Fac. 42 Black (1.1x)
Sweet Caporal, Red Fact 42-NC

Dave

Over the past year or two, I haven't noticed any price differences for either of the Hassans, the HLC, or the SC Black 42. The multipliers seem to start with Sovereign, and I'd put Cycle a bit higher than Sovereign (maybe 1.1x and 1.2x respectively). The Broadleaf multipliers might have gone up just a bit, and Drum seems right around 30-40x. I do think Hindu has gone up a fair amount, and seems to be about 50-60x at the moment!

I will defer to Dan on the rest, but I would agree on this statement. I view these as 'commons' with the other non-X ones and don't see any price differences or distinctions. I do sometimes see sellers put premiums on the Polar Bear backs for the T205s though.

Polar Bears are a bit of an anomaly because the multiplier isn't steady over all grades. Most of them are low grade and don't present well because of tobacco staining. The multiplier in low grades may actually be about -0.1 or -0.2. But high-grade Polar Bears are pretty rare, so the multiplier can flip in the other direction.

Excellent point. Thanks! Much like first and last cards in numbered sets, which carry a premium in high grade but are really just as 'common' (usually) as the other 'commons'.

Also a note from building the American Beauty subset is that it really depends on the subject. Some green ones are nearly impossible to find and therefor command a huge premium when encountered. I had to pay aprox 10x for one that would be an otherwise common with a different back when it came up.
