National "Gotta See"

I know I will see LOTG's Gehrig Bat and I'll certainly grab a Net54 pin from Leon if there are any left by the time I get there...........

What other "must see's" are at the National this year. Any t206 Wagners ?

Rob D. 07-29-2015 06:33 PM

If history is any indication, there probably will be an arrest on the convention floor. That'd be kind of cool to watch. Really cool, depending on the person in cuffs.

whitehse 07-29-2015 06:41 PM

In the last five years has there been a year when there was NOT an arrest on the floor by the boys with big, shiny boots?

Here's the only Wagner I saw for sale. Nice little $800k price tag.

e107collector 07-29-2015 08:13 PM

AJ,

Who was selling the Wagner?? $800K for a 2?? Yikes!!

Tony

Rob D. 07-29-2015 08:15 PM

It's the National. The real surprise is the price wasn't $1.8 million.

Luke 07-29-2015 08:19 PM

Funny that that's a 2. If it wasn't a Wagner it's a 1 every time. Really cool to get to see one up close like that though.

The Gehrig bat is awesome. Great story. Saw a few Planks. Selection of Leon's collection. Some nice T206 errors and rarebacks. Good show so far.

trdcrdkid 07-29-2015 09:01 PM

I won't be able to be there until Friday, but I'll keep an eye out for that Wagner. Hope to see some of you on the convention floor, as well as at the dinner!

tonyo 07-29-2015 09:36 PM

Thanks Guys, can you narrow down the location of the Wagner and the Planks?

I should be there Thursday and Friday.

Cant wait !

Enjoy National to all that are going. Post some of the rarer cards you see for those not able to make it or whose wife decided "it wasn't a good idea since we are building a house." (I'm not bitter at all I swear )

Tough OJs and some T206 scrap would be awesome to see!!

We'll be there tomorrow and Saturday. Can't wait!

tonyo 07-30-2015 10:16 PM

The Wagner is at B&L

I'll have to take another gander at it tomorrow - I don't think it quite sunk in.

Enjoyed my first day at the show very much but only made it about a third of the way thru. Looked at dozens ( mAybe 100's) of t206

Only Found 4 I wanted but am extremely happy.

Probably will pick up a big ( for me) card from my want list first thing tomorrow if it is still there .

Went off the grid a little a couple of times - 4 "downtown Freddie Browns" (ot) from a Nickle box, 62 coins Spahn and Frank R and a Pete Rose coke bottle cap.

No luck on t205 commons less than 15 ( not even close)

Also held the Babe Ruth bat ! The only real "gotta see"

I'm at the National all week. Yesterday, I saw the Wagner, three Planks and two/three Magies, along with a Cobb/Cobb back. Also, three T210 Joe Jacksons, and two E90-1 Jacksons. Oh, and the Gehrig bat :D.

Too many other great pre-WW1 cards to mention!

Steve

tonyo 07-31-2015 08:55 AM

Steve do you remember who had the Cobb/Cobb back?

brass_rat 07-31-2015 09:52 AM

Another Steve responding here, but anyways :) it's at the Memory Lane table right at the front door.

The National has got to be a cute girl's wet dream or worst nightmare, depending on her self esteem.

I think one of them was at Heritage Auctions. On the others, I really don't remember. Unfortunately, I'm terrible at remembering who has what. I was driving myself crazy today trying to remember who had what, and where a dealer's booth was. The table/dealer map printed in the program wasn't helpful in many cases either, as it had dealers located at the complete opposite end of the building, from where they actually were.

This one was at Brockelman & Luckey, keeping Honus company.

The highlight of the show for me (other than the Wagner) was the Ellery Clark collection. For those who don't know the name, Ellery is the athlete who spearheaded the US sending a team to the 1st Olympic Games in 1896. It is possible that had he not stepped up, the Olympic movement may have flopped without US participation. The success of the US team created publicity in the US for the Olympics and ensured full US participation for future Olympics.

That's probably a reasonable price. A psa 2 sold for $650k 3 years ago and a psa 3 recently sold for $1.3 million.
