REA: Will you make it to the end?

Do you think you'll be awake (or do you even want to be) at the end of REA tonight/Sunday morning?

RichR 05-02-2009 07:32 PM

I know I won't be.

Matt 05-02-2009 07:41 PM

I took a 2 hour nap today. :D

calvindog 05-02-2009 07:41 PM

If not for me spending so much the other night...I would be. Now, probably not.

Abravefan11 05-02-2009 07:51 PM

Slim to none would be giving it too much of a chance.

Doug 05-02-2009 08:10 PM

Probably not, especially if it goes to 2-3 AM.

three25hits 05-02-2009 08:37 PM

I am up on the only lot I bid on -- fingers crossed

Jeff D 05-02-2009 08:37 PM

Would probably rather not, but I want to win at least 1 lot. :o

Jay Wolt 05-02-2009 08:41 PM

I have some consigned lots and I'm high on 1 lot
and may be re-bidding on other lots. So yep, I'll
be up to the 2:00-3:00AM closing time.
No need on a Saturday night to go to bed too early.

jmk59 05-02-2009 08:55 PM

I might come close. I'm doing online bar prep videos and checking in on REA is a good break between sessions. So between the umpteen hearsay exceptions, Time is of the Essence clauses ("Hose the Breacher") and the Erie Doctrine, I just might be able to peek in quite late.

I sure hope whoever thunk up the "Recent Bids" screen gets a big-a$$ bonus this year. That alone has totally changed the end-of-auction watch to something that is very dynamic, even if you are shut out or close to getting shut out.

I agree. The "recent bids" feature is great.

HercDriver 05-02-2009 09:19 PM

I'll stick around until...

The Bulls lost, but the Blackhawks are looking good. With two high bids, I'll be awake at least until the Hawks get done skating...

Take Care,
Geno

martyogelvie 05-02-2009 09:19 PM

Can't stay up too much later. :(

Kawika 05-02-2009 09:29 PM

Ordinarily I'd be sitting pretty in Honolulu where it's 6 hours behind EST. However I am presently in southern Alberta at the in-laws, on dial-up, and there's no way I will last til the end. Am ahead on seven bids right now but don't expect that to last. Will be happy to land a couple of keepers.

jmk59 05-02-2009 09:34 PM

Even with the "close any time after 11:00" rule, I can't see it shutting down anytime soon. Look at all of the value added between 11:15 and 11:30. Even if you account for the autobids kicking in, there were still a handful of significant lots that went up.

Is someone in "gotta have it" mode on the Hutson jersey, or is that an expected price for that? Wow. Just that one bid alone during that 15 minute interval was a $5K bump, $6 with bp.

I suspect they aren't going anywhere soon.

The "recent bids" feature cuts both ways: bidders could wait for things to really slow down before dropping their next bids, unlike in previous years where REA was really like shooting in the dark. In essence, the feature is just a true 15 minute clock which actually resets after each bid.

I dunno - the REA rules say that the 15 minute concept dies at 11 PM and now it's just up to whenever Rob feels like it's been enough.

Jeff

I don't think so.....I think it is still in 15 minute increments....but could be wrong

meaning it starts over if there is a bid in the previous 15 minutes....but I sort of like actual clocks better...I am not sure if this is one or not...

Matt 05-02-2009 09:52 PM

"After 11:00 PM EDT, we may close the auction without reference to the fifteen minute rule."

Agreed--but do you realistically think that Rob is shutting this thing down unless and until the bids start coming in reallllly slowly? It's just starting to heat up now!

No way it closes before 2 AM; just pointing out that seeing that another bid has been placed doesn't matter all that much since there is no 15 minute clock being renewed anymore.

No, what I mean is that by looking at the time of the latest bids...a bidder can see some spacing of 5 mins..then 8...then 9...and when it starts getting late...just pull the trigger. Previously we had no clue when it would end.

Nonetheless, I don't see this thing ending before 3 am EST anyway.

I think that is what I am getting at. I think this is fine though....Hopefully folks will just place their bids and not have to wait till the last second.....I am not waiting......high on a few so we shall see...I might put a pot of coffee on

jmk59 05-02-2009 10:12 PM

Shoot. I should pack it in before I decide to start bidding on things again!

Adam 05-03-2009 12:10 AM

Things still going strong, nice few jumps for the T206 Doyle!

three25hits 05-03-2009 01:59 AM

Closed.

jmk59 05-03-2009 02:05 AM

And I did end up making it to the end. :-)))

Jeff D 05-03-2009 02:23 AM

15 minutes of fame

Based on the improvements I've seen in the new Net54 Board, I would say that there must be an advance in auction software that would allow a "live" switch from whole auction 15 minute rule to lot by lot...individual lots ending 15 minutes without a bid.

REA could start this at 2:20 ET.

bcbgcbrcb 05-03-2009 07:57 AM

As promised in my survey response, I managed to stay awake until the end but it was like torture. At least I won a couple of things!!!

Leon 05-03-2009 08:43 AM

well

I voted I wouldn't make it till the end but I did.... It was kind of late though...
