Well, I was hoping to put these in the August pickups, but they still haven't come. I finally decided to use the scans from the auction. I'm sure they will come soon.

Holy F&@$ is right Jeff. Holy F&@$ indeed. For those of you who don't collect PCs, there are three known specimens of this card. This PSA 6, of course, being the highest graded by far.

edjs 09-02-2017 06:09 PM

Orly and Jeff, thanks for the holy f's, but they aren't that great! Oh, you mean....lol

Jeff, that is a great, great PC.

clydepepper 09-02-2017 06:09 PM

Jeff- don't let the guy mess with you...that's a pretty good pickup.

Not a big deal, It is because I paid by check to receive the 3% discount. I send the check from California, it takes about 4 days to get to NJ, then Al has a 7-10 day wait on checks before shipping (I recommended that to him after he got stiffed on several thousand from a guy in Nevada).

Factor a postal holiday in there as well! We're pretty well caught up on shipping, we've been shipping most PayPal and credit card payments the same or next day (depending on the time of day the payment is received), and I can tell you that your package is right here next to me, to be delivered to the Post Office first thing in the morning. You should have it Thursday! :)

Wow that Horner is amazing! The clarity on those is just jaw dropping. Love the hair with the parting down the middle.

From the same time period....Here's an item that after extensive research have not seen another (would be very interested to know if anyone else has). Didn't even see one in the Dreier collection. Measuring 2'9" x 13" x 9.5" this Cracker Jack crate was used to ship 100 cartons from the Rueckheim Bros. & Eckstein factory in Chicago. Stamped on the top "C.F. Narhold Co Cleveland" and "Neumeyer & Beach C-O Park Chippewa Lake OH" both candy manufacturers and creameries and were likely business destinations for the sweet confections during the life of the crate. I believe these crates were used to deliver the cartons and possibly unloaded and brought back to the factory to re-use. The wood is very light weight which makes it even more remarkable that this survived 100+ years. On all sides you have red and black writing that is has been stamped into the wood. The metal hinges are functional but missing some screws and both hinges and screws look old to the period. Would love to know if anyone knows anything more about these crates!

orly57 09-06-2017 09:24 PM

AJ, that is fantastic. Goes well with your original CJ box too. What a unique and beautiful item. Congrats man.

That sure is a lot of packaging for a single cardboard box of Cracker Jacks -- maybe the shipper now works for Christies? :D

Seriously though, that is a great display you have.

I wonder if I can find anything out about these. My fiancee is from Seville, OH, which is right next to Chippewa Lake. In fact it's a 2 minute drive from her house to the actual Chippewa Lake, which used to be a booming lake with an amusement park and everything. Her family has lived in that area for A LONG time.

Excellent, excellent pickup.

Thanks Sam my man. I am always on the lookout for well centered copies to upgrade to or to fill a (still very large hole) in my collection. After recent pickups I think I am around +/- 85 in total of the 208 base set.
There was a spate of ebay auctions last night which this came from....all I chose had pretty decent centering or colors etc....here are some more of them....and they were all below my max bids, some well below.

Just got back from the Long Beach Expo. Great to finally meet Mark and Sal. Saw some great stuff at the Memory Lane booth, a Cobb Lucky 7, Ruth bat and card, some high end T206 Cobbs. Small enough to be personable, big enough to have nice stuff. And if this Southworth isn't just the cutest thing?

Joe_G. 09-10-2017 08:08 AM

Pete, nice pickup from Dan.

I just got some cards back from SGC. A bit of a scare when I realized they shipped and were being held at the West Palm Beach distribution center on Sept 7th (Palm Beach County was under mandatory evacuation by the 7th). At any rate, my cards made it out safe and I hope for the same favorable outcome for all those potentially impacted by Hurricane Irma.

The pair of Newsboys came courtesy Tony Arnold at the National. Thank you Tony, this brings me to an even dozen. These cards have been rather elusive, would love to see others out there regardless of their availability.

This final card is a special addition to my collection. This one is courtesy of a trade with Jay Miller and brings me one card away from full Pete Conway sweep. I now only need pose 5. The back shows evidence of being from Buck Barker who presumably obtained it from Keith Mitchell (see 1979 notation at bottom). Jay obtained the card in 2004 from Lew Lipset so it has been in good company (Mitchell to Barker to Lipset to Miller). Thank you Jay!

With the acquisition of the Heinie Wagner, I have completed my T205 Red Sox team set. The Kleinow and Wagner were more difficult to find than I had anticipated, but the search was fun... The Henriksen was an impulse Ebay bid that I ended up winning. Kinda cool that on the back he is described as "the viking descended outfielder of the Boston Americans".
