White Plains Show travel advisory

If anyone was planning to go to the White Plains show this weekend from NJ, please keep in mind the old Tappan Zee Bridge is set to be blown up Sat morning. I287/87 is supposed to be closed starting at 9am.

And relic cards will be created from the rubble as some athlete in some sport drove over the bridge during their career.

iwantitiwinit 01-07-2019 04:15 PM

Its about time they blew that POS up!!!!

MVSNYC 01-07-2019 07:20 PM

Might go Friday, so no issues (using the new one) then?

Michael B 01-07-2019 07:35 PM

I will add that I am glad they put in the electronic tolls. It caught me by surprise when it first went in as I had a rental and was not expecting it. However, the approach to the toll booths after crossing the river was always a challenge, that and the downhill approach from NJ just before the bridge.

Buythatcard 01-07-2019 08:43 PM

Are there any routes from NJ to White Plains that are worth trying on Saturday.

Or should I just wait till Sunday to go out there?

WP Show

I'm working Saturday, so I'll have to go Sunday. Be aware, the Weather report mentioned the S word for Sunday.

It depends on where you're coming from but the Bear Mountain Bridge is a nice approach from the north.

Republicaninmass 01-08-2019 05:03 AM

If you think the admission to get in is fair get in, there is always the George washington bridge! $17 I think now

You can swing over the GWB and up 87 North, then connect to 287 (which you ultimately need to travel upon anyway to reach White Plains)

Snapolit1 01-08-2019 07:15 AM

Metro North train stops a short walk from the center. Problem solved.

It did not prove to be very long-lasting, as bridges go. Did NY cut corners on its original construction, or fail to maintain it?

slipk1068 01-08-2019 09:55 AM

Material shortages during Korean War, so it was built cheaply. I guess they took a lot of short cuts. I believe when they built it, it was planned to last 50 years and it lasted over 60 years. Now you would think government would have saved 10 cents from every toll collected to cover at least some of the cost of building a new bridge. Wishful thinking to have a government that plans for the future...

Looking forward to the show. Always a good time.

TCMA 01-08-2019 02:35 PM

From the north Bear Mountain Bridge is an alternative and a pretty drive. From the south there's always GWB but that toll will get ya.

How are you Andrew?

My route from the North is Taconic to 287 which lets me off about 2 exits away from the show. Very convenient and not much traffic.

Extravaganza

Looks like the snowstorm will miss the area on Sunday. :)

Republicaninmass 01-12-2019 05:00 AM

Parking in the westchester lot went up to 15$! I think that's almost a 100% increase

MVSNYC 01-12-2019 05:05 AM

Show was bustling yesterday. T206 (especially HOF & rare backs) prices incredibly strong. And anything Ruth and Cobb too.

Great to see some familiar faces- Al C, Bill B, Rob S and nice meeting TCMA.

Rhotchkiss 01-12-2019 06:10 AM

You get anything Michael? You making me jealous- I gotta get to a white plains show one these days.

gzman 01-12-2019 12:10 PM

That parking charge is OUTRAGEOUS...

Don't know this for a fact, but assume that's a municipal charge and not a show charge. Not that a $15 charge to park is reasonable under any circumstances.

oldjudge 01-12-2019 04:17 PM

If I remember correctly there is metered parking in the lot catty corner to the facility

There’s still Sunday Ryan and lots of great stuff on the floor!

That is correct, and you can even find free parking not far away either. I haven't paid for parking in a couple years. I ended up picking up an E102 Evers today.

MVSNYC 01-12-2019 05:29 PM

I parked in that big adjacent lot for free. No attendant there at 2pm. Inside they confirmed it was free (if no one was in the booth).

Republicaninmass 01-12-2019 05:33 PM

The person came into the booth at about 2:01!

$10 admission and 15$ parking

MVSNYC 01-12-2019 06:39 PM

Walking a show and feeling like a kid again...Priceless.

There's some thing money can't buy, for everything else, theres MasterCard.

:)

T206Collector 01-13-2019 04:44 AM

Metered parking on the street near City Limits Diner. Bring some quarters.

Yastrzemski Sports 01-13-2019 04:47 AM

I was also not happy with the $15 parking. Last year I think it was 5 or 6. But that’s a county fee and not part of the show. That’s why I prefer Philly or Chantilly. You can park right next to the venue for free. For $15 I have to haul my stuff through the parking lot, across the parkway and up the stairs. I may have to explore some of the parking mentioned above.

Marchillo 01-13-2019 07:15 AM

I use the metered lot. It’s a buck an hour. If you choose option one on the meter you can choose as many hours as you want. Last year I parked for free on a side street but didn’t feel like trying that this year.

I got there at 9:30. The metered lot was pretty packed/maybe full at 10:30.

gzman 01-13-2019 10:44 AM

The metered lot is prepaid by credit card...let's not tell too many about this great option!

sayhey24 01-13-2019 10:54 AM

Those of you from Upstate NY should try the Albany show this Sunday 1/20. Small show, but lots of 50s, 60s and 70s cards, and some pre-war. Also a couple of tables of hard to find vintage baseball memorabilia.

WP Show

I had fun at the WP show today. I dropped off a lot of stuff to PSA. Their booth was mobbed all day. I was able to read the whole N.Y. Post while waiting on line. SGC and Beckett were empty.

I got this at a good price, so I had a good day:
